Default Western Union & Money Gram

Are these two payment methods legit? Does anyone use them? they always seem to be the payment method for scammers do they not?

Iv been looking at buying something from europe but everywhere only wants WU/MG for it which im sceptical of, as iv had my card cloned twice in 4 months now..

This morning i gets an email offering me a job with a company http://www.4star-solutions.cc/ who claim to be based in bournmouth and have seen my CV online, apparently id be processing payments via WU & MG...wtf?!

You've answered your own question.

"they always seem to be the payment method for scammers do they not?"

Yes

Agreed. Avoid, as there is no come back.

Always pay by credit card now.

A friend works at a University and they often pay through Western Union for overseas payments with no problem.

WU and MG are themselves legitimate. Many people who use them are not.

The technical term is 'money mule' and chances are you'll be laundering the proceeds of crime. Not worth the jail time IMHO.

There's nothing wrong with these services, provided you know the person you're sending money to and can trust them.

The problem is that a lot of dishonest people insist in their scams that they are paid this way, because it's hard to trace where the money has ended up and the sender has no comeback. So if someone you don't know asks to be paid through one of these services, it should set warning bells ringing.

To illustrate the point - and for a little comic relief to boot - here's a laughably stereotypical Nigerian 419 scam email I received a couple of weeks ago... I didn't think they still even bothered, but you live and learn:

Attention, Attention,, Attention.

The FedEx courier Service Company are hereby passing an essential massage to all our valuable customers to be very careful while presenting their receivers residential address to avoid wrong delivery.

[snip... blah... blah...]

...sum of $ 1.3 million dollars ... now in our office and also with your name as the receiver ... still owes this company the sum of $150 US DOLLARS ... you are to pay for just the balance left by your sender via western union so that your parcel can be delivered...

[snip]

...scam mails that are going all-over the world be careful with their e-mails so that your parcel will not be in danger with their evil plans.

[snip]

NOTE THAT THE PAYMENT WILL BE MADE VIA WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER
