Hmm. Heard some of these things before, and it is certainly likely to offend some people today.

I suggest you quote your source.

Interesting read even if an utter load of tosh

Prior to the 2nd world war - nearly everyone was pro appeasement with the then german democratically elected government - including a certain Neville Chamberlain. Britain had had a long a difficult war with germany only 20 years previously and was not keen to repeat the experience - hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Is it any wonder that such documentation if it exsist was kept hidden - a kinder explaination might be that the QM was defending an already discredited king who had abdicated ! personal loyalty might count for something.

As to the African Nations idea - again you are judging someone born in 1899 by modern standards - She was an Empress of India in her youth and conformed to the notion of EMPIRE - difficult to understand today. In any case - I think we could look at a few african regimes and wonder if they are a model democracy .... Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Ruander, Zaire, Angola - how many wars there in the last 30 years ! It just possibly was a personal view - I think she might be entitled to that.

As to the gin swilling gambler image - I personally have no problem with that, good luck to her - She was an aristocrat already before she married, I expect whatever path her life took she would still have partyed when possible.

The Queen PERSONALLY footed the bill for her estimated £5m overdraft at coutts bank - not the tax payer....

So go ahead post this rubbish if you want - but try a more balanced view.

if its tosh its tosh, i didnt type it, but if its true then i for one would like to know about it as i think so many others would! Especially if our taxes have been paying for it!

As for if it was our family, I dont think any of you could give a stuff if i told you my granny had just died, so why should it be any different here?? i wasnt related to the queen mum and as far as im concerned, she's no more important than my gran, bet their **** stinks the same!! it dont smell of roses just cos she royalty!

sorry but not all royalty are completely perfect!!!

Don't mistake what I said - I never said you were at fault for posting this - I was pointing out some inconsistencies in the argument presented - eg it is a 21st century critique and very one sided. Nor did I say the QM was perfect - far from it I suspect - but in her private life.

In the role of monarch and later QM - she was a good ambassador for the country - respected and admired by many - which must count for something.

She had many roles and functions in her life and saw massive changes in society - many people could not and have not coped with say a traditional upbringing in rural scotland at a time when young girls were not sent to school beyong 14 - to the latter part of her life in the high tec 1990's and beyond.

I personally am no fan of the people in the royal family except the queen - but I do think the sense of history and tradition bound up by the RF is worth preserving.

I like things such as the wardens at the tower lock the gates every night in the name of the queen - and have been doing so for over 600 years !!! - its wrong to cast that off just so we can have blair in the air as pres - Disaster imho

I was just after some balance.

know what you are saying mate but at the same time, its wrong to have a blinkered view of the truth (if it IS the truth) just because we like history

its like that Stigmata film, its based on a scroll that refuses to be recognised by the Vatican, but if they did recognise it and they turned round and said "yup! it was all a con, there is no jesus or god, this proves it" would you want to hear it cos its the truth? or would you want to ignore cos for years you have been worshipping something that you dont want to accept is a lie???

something to think about...

ive made people laugh and i have and show respect from and to my friends and family

if i could afford not to work, i daresay i'd also find some time to visit those less fortunate than I. however, I'm flexible in my ideas and am willing to adapt to circumstances. she was pretty much stubborn on most accounts - a characteristic given to her on more than one occassion by a variety of people.

i don't believe there was much about her that couldn't be found in other people, yet she commands a service above and beyond anything anyone would expect to get. it's not what you do, it's who you are and I feel this highlights that fact

Diana - fair comment, did a lot she didn't have to and would go the extra mile. did the QM? i don't believe so.

At least the royal family spend the money earmarked for them.
We looked at all the specific amounts of additional money promised to be spent on the NHS over the last few years and found that often the 'new' amount announced was simply a repeat announcement of an amount from months before, not yet spent. I don't know the general state of A&E depts but I heard a good story about a Post Natal Ward at an Essex Hospital. 15 nurses, 4 doctors, 1 consultant and ......wait for it.......12, yes 12 auditors. All earning far too much money for 6 hour days! No wonder you have to wait 6hrs when money is wasyed like this

well said vate

I have to say the doc i saw was superb, but i did not enjoy the fact that he was the only on in the hospital, he had to rush off and leave some people when bad accidents came in.

yeh your right due, there were probably 20 bean counters in the back office.

sux big time

the problem is like schools they are told every year you must do more with less, it`s no wonder why they cant keep up, we need more money for doctors, nurses and equipment for them, (about time the nurses got more money as well, as far as i understand they pay them in magic beans)

A reasoned argument mr catflap.

These areas are the governments concern - they are the ones to be held accountable for the state of the health service. yes you can say - 10 million a year on the monarchs is tooo much.

But hold on £1.2bn on the million dome - WTF - go figure

The RF probably net the country money year on year - plus what would we put on the coins

Cool

not read all the posts, but that is a top pic dj dunk!

i did 7 years in the royal navy. i never met one steward that had a good word to say about her, sorry, but its true. infact they'd say far worse about her than anyone has said here.

did you also know that one of the messes' on the royal yacht has a poo from the queen mum sealed in a perspex box mega funny!

i served my country...but i hate the royals and all it stands for. i'm as loyal as the next man when it comes to my country, but puke at all the phoney tears cried by some, especially at the bbc. 99% of the time slagging 'em off, then sob sob when one of 'em dies. truly nauseating

i dont wish the royals harm, but i hope to see the day when we get rid of this system. and no i'm not a commie, quite the opposite.

I agree with some of the points about the monarchy and the future etc but the fact it was posted today says a great deal about the people who wish the monarchy to disolve, they seem to have little respect.

Ok so the royals get 10M a year. But how much does they bring in to this country through tourism. Much, much more. Espescially when you take into account how much the government wastes each week.
EG Dome,Decorating apartments at £80/roll, Tonys airoplane bill, Prescotts cars. 10 mill is nothing.

I think you will find that the queen mother would prefer to be shown a little Respec, innit.

I am not taking the ****, its a sad day, I empathise with the Queen Mother, I saw her as a kindred spirit in a way, I too have an overdraft of not inconsiderable proportions, a love of gin and intend if possible to do **** all for 101 years.

<Republican system is the only sensible way for this country to progress>
Bollox it is. Look at the facts here. The Royal family has been around since time was recorded. President Blair (****...) has been around for 6 years or so and he uses the feckin royal flight more often than the queen!
If we got rid of the RF then President Blair would be the head of state. Shortly after, the astraboy would move to Holland.
The Royal family will ALWAYS be around. Simply because they are the royal family. You cannot get rid of something that big just because they cost 56million a year. hell, they generate twice as much in tourism alone.
Sorry this has got my back up. I am a avant royalist and nothing will make me change.
Republicans can go back to reading the Guardian.
astraboy.
