Opting out of Company Car - Insurance and NCB
Has anyone recently opted out of a company car scheme and then managed to get a reasonable insurance quote?
I had full NCB up until my last policy expired in August 2008 and haven't had a claim since - something my employer can verify. I've tried a couple of insurers and they treat me as having zero NCD. It wipes out the savings I'd make in opting out of the company car scheme.
Thanks in advance.

I managed to persuade an insurance company that I had x number of years accident free with a letter from my employer. I guess you just have to ring around a little more?

When we all opted out (granted a few years ago) our fleet management company were prepared to write a letter confirming the accident free record.
A big fleet management company would no doubt have some very strong links to organise their own insurance, possibly through the same companies you are ringing. So I'd have thought that they can be relied upon by the insurance companies, same as the old days when you used to forward your old renewal letter to the new company as proof.

As stated above, a letter from your employer giving evidence of claim free driving does work, however does not always give the same amount of discount(%).
Try Avivia or a broker that uses Aviva as they will accept NCD from upto 3 years ago rather than the usual 2 years.

I'll give Aviva a whirl.
Our company 'self-insures' i.e. we have third part insurance to keep us legal but any extra costs from claims are borne by the company i.e. repairs, hire cars etc.
