Guantanamo seven 'paid off' to halt legal action against Government
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/ukne...overnment.html A group of former Guantanamo Bay detainees who claim they were tortured with the complicity of the British security services have been paid millions of pounds to drop legal action against the Government. Unbelievable! A bunch of Islamists miscreants now set to become millionaires out of the tax payers pocket. It's standard tactics for these people to claim torture. Some are not even British citizens, but asylum seekers. Another victory for the radicals backed by their useful idiots the liberal human rights lawyers.

They should spend it all anywhere except the UK, then enter the UK, sign on, claim benefits and have a dozen kids - followed by the a two page spread in the Daily Mail detailing how the UK has completely let them down and they desere another Mil or two.

The bill for this should be deducted directly from the index linked pensions of Blair, Brown, Straw, Blunkett, and the rest

When all's said and done Guantanamo Bay was a disgrace to the USA.
I'd bet a pound to a pinch of snuff that MI6 knew exactly what was going on and their hands are dirty.
I think expediency is the order of the day.

As I said in another thread, it is so disappointing that we do not have a leader in the true sense of the word who has the guts to do something positive to stop this sort of thing and to resist the rubbish orders that we keep getting from the Eu.

I don't suppose anyone knows what really went on in these cases, nor are we going to find out.
On the other hand, I guess a few million here or there isn't much in the scheme of things compared with the cradle to grave wastage that is part and parcel of our glorious welfare state.

Bless 'em, getting caught up in all this. Looking at their profile I cannot imagine how they could have anything other than the Allies' best interests at heart. Rumour has it that one of these victims will be donating his windfall to Help the Heroes. Respect.

So of the 7 we're paying off 3 who aren't even British?
Binyam Mohammed who was refused refugee status in the UK and is not a Uk citizen
Bisher al-Rawi and he's an Iraqi national (not British)
Jamil el Banna and he's a Jordanian national
We really are a soft touch aren't we? I can understand the other 4 suing as it was their government's responsibility to protect them (if indeed they are innocent). I bet these three don't bother trying to sue the US for the false imprisonment. They know they will get money out of us regardless.
Sadly it's seems that the new Conlib government feel they have the ability (justifiably) to take our own countrymen to task when needed - reducing the deficit. But they really have no backbone to taking on international matters (the EU, Immigrants, these 3 jokers above, etc). I really would like it to stand up for it's own citizens.

Why the hell should the UK pay these men anything. Most are not true UK citizens and most were arrested whilst in Pakistan , Afghanistan etc.

No doubt they were all in Afgahnistan on a bird-watching holiday
It's clear to everyone except the loony-left that they were likely out there 'for the cause', and may well have fought and even killed British and other allied troops - a fact which some on here are probably happily willing to overlook.
Now they're heading to the UK for lottery-win size payouts from our taxes because there was no CCTV evidence or a load of witnesses to provide evidence against them. Absolutely shocking.

Exactly the kind of liberal attitude which is causing this country so many problems.

As it happens it's nice to see that your post reveals you are happy to forego the cornertone of a civilsed justice system and forget about the mantra that is innocent until proven guilty. Still as long as they are Johnny Foreigner types who cares eh?

It's easy to take a moral high ground but we are fighting a war.
At the end of the day x10 worse stuff goes on in the interior ministries of 3rd world states ever day.
But everyone piles on the US such is the fashion for anti-Americanism, whilst places like Iran lock up and torture people just for being political enemies of the ruling elites etc.
It's hypocrisy.

Maybe the UK and USA's interests align, or do you crave an anti-American spirit of refusal/defiance just for the sake of it?

Anyway it's funny that the Islamists now bleating about 'justice' and 'innocent until proven guilty' are all cheering when Hezbollah kidnaps IDF soldiers or fires rockets, and even want to replace our justice system with sharia law.

That's very idealistic, but back in the real world when the lives of hundreds or even thousands of people are at stake, IMO governments should take actions to protect the people they represent - even if this means going against laws which have been in place for hundreds of years.
