ok - google provided this:

The term "cloud" is used as a metaphor for the Internet, based on the cloud drawing used in the past to represent the telephone network,[7] and later to depict the Internet in computer network diagrams as an abstraction of the underlying infrastructure it represents

So, that's nicely cleared up then!!!

Instead of music sitting on your Apple or PC hard drive, it will be available on the internet, access your music anywhere from any device (streaming).

Apple have a brand new 1billion dollar data centre waiting to start up, this is probably part of its function http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDXSSi1qStA

Definitely possible, it would free up space on millions of devices and allow others - Apple TV for instance - access to your collection. I bet you'll have to sign up to Mobile Me though... not a bad thing.

I hope they do a good job of spotting Pirated music.

Nope your all wrong

I have it from Steve's lips , that itunes will become flashtunes, and he's

dropping the closed loop policy, which will allow any app to run and be loaded

via flashtunes

If it is that I'd be really disappointed. Am I alone in thinking the Beatles are overrated and dated? Great in their day sure but not for me.

There is a Beatles song called "Tomorrow Never Knows", so there is a possibility that this is what is referenced. It would be VERY up their own ****, more so than usual, to have such a big event for just this. It's not exactly earth shattering.

I think it'll either be cloud based storage of media, maybe tied in with mobileme, or they are extending the home sharing feature to work over a lan, so it'd be wan streaming in effect, to a client that runs iTunes, so that'd be another computer, or an iPhone / iPod, or a compatible Air Play device.

Hmm, that gets me thinking as to why they jumped on the wifi issue in the GM seed of 4.2, can't launch a service like that if there is a known wifi issue, would look silly and post-antennagate they really don't want another big **** up.

Oh, longer previews for songs in the iTunes store will also be offered up.

Wall Street Journal and New York Times have commented it's The Beatles. As said above, very underwhelmed, must be a slow week for Apple. I don't mind some of the Beatles music, I've got the Red and Blue albums (and The Grey Album ) and that does me just fine. I've ripped them from the purchased CD's and I see no reason to buy them again, so this announcement wouldn't mean much for me.

I guess it's somewhat similar to Kobo being the only place you could get a copy of the latest Giller prize winner, ala, iTunes will be the only online store to carry The Beatles.
