Hope the weather holdds for you guys, I remember well what it was like to do drill in the wet.
Sadly a friend of mine has organised an archery comp for tomorrow so I will be there. Just had to move the poppy as I realized the bow string will take it off.
Should be quite eriee tomorrow as its being held in an old quarry, which is now forested. Above us will be the local war memorial and we should be able to hear the last post. Not to mention a few there got their training for that environment.

It is that time to remember those who fought and died for our way of life, regardless of whether the political pigs are making a mockery of that way of life, the fact remains that these brave men and women made the ultimate sacrifice so we can live the way we do.

For The Fallen
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again;
They sit no more at familiar tables of home;
They have no lot in our labour of the day-time;
They sleep beyond England's foam.
But where our desires are and our hopes profound,
Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight,
To the innermost heart of their own land they are known
As the stars are known to the Night;
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust,
Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain;
As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness,
To the end, to the end, they remain.

Our parade went well, the rain came at the end, and the Kohima prayer, as follows:-
When you go home, tell them of us and say,
‘For your tomorrow we gave our today.’
was read by a veteran of the battle it gets its name from. Moving.
All the drill went well, the only issue was poppies leaving the right breast butonholes en masse.
WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.

I attended the parade and ceremony in our local town. It was chucking it down but the attendance by the public was outstanding. There was a marine band and a bunch of Navy officers and a Navy guard plus all the Scouts, Girl Guides and Brownies and Navy cadets with the occasional RAF bod as well. It was a moving ceremony with an extra stone being dedicated to three local lads who were killed in Afghanistan. We had a reason for a sympathetic smile when the young lad playing the Last Post on his bugle had a few problems with some of the notes! It was a real slightly old fashioned Devon occasion which was very impressive and reminded me of the old days when I used to march with the Scouts for our parades at home.
It was good to see the enormous march past at the Centotaph on the TV later as well.

I've done 2 of the last 4 years remembrance parades in Kandahar, this year I sat in front of the telly with my 7-old daughter and watched the service at the Cenotaph - I think she know's what is going on because she asked some very pointed questions, especially about the limbless, and wouldn't stopping cuddling me.
It really brought it all home to me.

I attended our local parade. Its only a smallish town but it was real jerking to see how many came along to remember the dead of two World Wars.
There were quite a few old soldiers too, some walking proudly and three old boys with their berrets and medals proudly displayed joining in on their mobility buggies.
I must say I shed a tear or two.
Lets all hope that the Country never forgets their sacrifice.
