Wasn't there an earlier original of that choon UB? The ones I remember are the 2006 remixes which I bought on vinyl, the 1997 mix with te source, the above posted mix which was around 1989?? But il sure the oober original was from 1986. Could anyone confirm this as it's bugging me

Personally, I like repetition in my music, it allows you to explore the true meaning of the sound. I can listen to the amen breakbeat for hours at a time and not get bored.

I was hanging around on the dance floors when that tune came out and as said it was a massive hit. For some reason I never liked it though everybody else did, including my wife who loves it. It was very odd situation as all my friends loved it and I would go to the loo when it came on!
Astra, not sure I'd agree that it's the first track to use a looped sample like that. What exactly do you mean by that? Genuinely interested by the way, not having a dig. As I said I was into the genre just didn't like that tune for some reason.

I remember the original coming out in 1986. My mate was a DJ in Manchester at the time (can't remember the club name, but was on Princess St near China town) and he used to get promo copies of anything dance oriented. I remember listening to it and loving the vocal, but Jon said it needed a remix... and then it got one... and the rest is history.
Like New Order's Confusion and SOS Band's Just be Good to Me this track brought things to the party that still influence dance music today.
Kasabian do a good version of You got the Love btw

Got to admit I don't get this Florence wots her face bint, basically because whilst she seems to be able to sing...its always seems to be off key. The cover of you got the love is a good example.
Same when she did a cover of Fleetwood mac's "The chain" at glasto, where she murdered it....if I was in the crowd, I'd have ran on the stage and slapped her silly.

Love that tune. It was produced by Arthur Baker who did some absolute classics like Planet Rock and Breakers Revenge, two of my all time favourite old school electro tunes

Well I really like Florence and think the CD is great. When I first heard her stuff I felt there was a definate Souixsie and The Banshees type of feel to her vocals.
Read an interview she did and she listed Souixsie as one of her influences....

You're missing the point mate, this was one of the first tracks to have a sample based loop like that throughout the track. It was one of the turning points for electronic dance music, it literally inspired thousands of subsequent tunes to do exactly the same, mostly using the iconic 'Amen' breakbeat.

It led me to download no less than 82 Mb of Amen based drum loops in a collection called the AMEN BREAK COLLECTION
Question is - what to do with them? ... let's see... where's that unplugged Ace Of Spades tune and Ableton...
