Default Speed Cameras can cause accidents - Official

http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Home...et-for-A14.htm

Inspector Clinton Hale, manager of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Road Safety Camera Unit, ...

Insp Hale said: ...

“Average speed cameras are better than fixed because they give the motorist penalty of warning. With fixed cameras they often come to an abrupt slow down which can cause accidents.

Well there you go then

But I prefer fixed cameras as the average ones prevent safe overtaking.

For example, the road leading past Stocksbridge near Sheffield, the one that takes you from the M1 to the Woodhead pass. It has lots of crawler lanes with bloody average speed cameras on. So, a whole train of cars tries to overtake a HGV, all stuck at 58mph with the truck doing 50. 3 or 4 cars get past and the rest are stuck, forcing some to then make dodgy overtakes on the single lane sections.

Average speed cameras are great fun when people try to overtake you at about 2mph faster then they slow down, overtaking can take a mile

The amount of times I get stuck behind someon who slows to 30mph for a 40mph speed camera is unbeliveable. Understanadble if you are not used to the area, but this happens to me every day on a road littered with 40mph signs.

I even has a guy slow to 15mph for a 30mph camera......so I overtook him, yup, making roads safer my ****

Average speed cameras are easy for overtaking, go past as fast as you like for a few seconds then slow right down to bring your average down again.

At least you are now in front.
