Has anyone sold a car to these people?

My mate has a pretty good valuation from them, but I said I could see them knocking him down when they actually see the vehicale.

How does it work? Any ideas?

I think you have to be brain dead to deal with them, better off setting fire to it.

The agents have a target to knock 28% off the initial valuation, so work out what that price would be and if you would be happy with it or not. Chances are you won't be...

How are we buy any car still going? You have to be a mug to sell to them. I got quoted online for my cougar back in the day £950, garage offered part exchange £1200 so sold on ebay. Got a better deal by £200 on the impreza as I was buying cash with no trade in and sold it 5 days later for £1750 completely hassle free! If I had the time or patience £2000 wouldnt have been too optimistic.

Father in law emigrated to NZ last Thursday so needed a relatively quick sale....used them and got around book value, less £100 for dents etc....

So, to my amazement they seemed pretty fair !

Just for comparison I stuck my car in, although I had to select 09 model as Parkers didn't provide a '10 model value

Whatcar valued at £23,330
Parkers valued at £21,205
We buy any car valued at £17,515

Yup good valuation over the phone turn up on site and they will nit pick on everything and invariably lower their offer.

I worked above their offices in Northampton (KC business centre) for a while and saw this in action!

I had a valuation for my wife's A3 in April - £2200ish.

Had a revaluation last month - £1200.

I reckon their valuation model must think that as I've come back for a second valuation, I am desperate for a sale and so the value drops.

CAP value the car at £2000 ish.

Wow, they bid me 8k for mine, I'd have to be on drugs or clucking for a fix to sell for that amount. I bet that they would knock you down on the price too.

To be fair though, Whatcar and Parkers don`t actually buy cars though do they.

WBAC will use any defect, however minor, to knock the price down. If you really need to sell in a hurry they might be worth a punt.

I`d rather put up with tyre kickers and sell privately.

I got a valuation last year on my 330d - just out of curiosity, and they came back with £12,800 which was a fair bit below bottom book at the time and probably a couple of grand less than a dealer would have offered for it.

I've heard for lower value cars (sub £5k) that the valuations sometimes come in fairly good, and not really much less than you'd get from a private sale, so I can see it being worth a look if you want an easy sale.

But unless you were actually quoted a fair bit more by a dealer at that time your suspicions are just that, suspicions.

I`m in no way defending WBAC by the way.

Yeah true, but whenever I've asked for a valuation at a dealers they just bring up glasses guide on screen and pretty much offer the book valuation adjusted for mileage/condition etc, and the WBAC car was a fair bit under book, so assumed same under dealer offer.

Fair enough. Most people vastly over-value their car though.

Other problems are if you are not buying another car or you want one that is considerably older then the one you are selling you would never achieve book price from a dealer as they don't like buying cars when not selling one also and certainly the price they offer will be lower.

If anyone is considering selling a car, PM me, I can offer much more realistic prices.

Alternatively, just contact any independent dealer, they are always looking for stock.

WBAC are generally about 15/20% below CAP values

i bought a golf deisel from the auction for a run around £800, turned out there was something wrong with the block.
whoever had it before had shelled out a fortune trying to rectify it i.e new head/headgasket/waterpump etc.
i took it to we buy any car, online valuation was £1230!!
by the time he took off for the dents/scuffs etc i got £875 lol
not all bad pmsl.

They are just a pawnbroker for cars, without the buy back option. You need money desperately quick or with less aggro, they provide that service. Be aware that they are making a profit by selling the crap at auction and the good stuff at Carcraft Supermarkets so they'll offer you the least amount possible to maximize their profits!

If you go to cash generator you'll seempeople selling xbox's for a tenner and games for 3 quid and I liken it to that!
