The problem seems to be that a vast majority of yanks are regressive, teabagging, right-wing christian fundamentalist morons yearning for an ideal America that never existed who also seem to have forgotten that all their economic and conflict problems were created under a hawkish Republican regime lead by a super wealthy chimp. What we really need, yee haaa, yes what we really need is Sarah Palin as President to sort out all of their problems and make the world a better place! Who is that fundamentalist American tea bagger who keeps crying all the time. I sooo want to punch him in the ***** and I am generally quite placid.

That is the sort of attitude that is getting Obama roasted in the polls.

It's a contemptuous view of everyday Americans, condescending them, looking down on them. It's typical of euro liberal elites to have this anti-Americanism but not US presidents.

Indeed there must be a majority of right-minded Americans to get Obama voted in in the first place and they can't all be fundamentalist christian loons. This possible swing to a Sarah Palinistic style right is a worry though. See what happens.

I'm in the US at the moment (in San Francisco) and the general consensus is that Obama is going to get thrashed.

(and then next week is a bill reading that will legalise cannabis in California)

Which hawkish republican regime are you talking about? Was it the one where interest rates were near 1% and housing was subsidised by the government, inflating a housing bubble? The one that also saw the bailout of private banks and the first stimulus program. Yes, very right-wing, hawkish and Christian fundamentalist policies.

Sorry but I fail to see what he has actually done wrong

He's tried to get things done that will actually make things fairer (end of tax breaks for the very rich, public-option health care), things that would make everybody's lives better (except the very richest) and yet people are hating him for it.

Whenever he tries to have a debate about it he just gets shouted down by the opposition and blocked at every turn, then they complain that he isn't doing enough to reach out to them! They can't have it both ways! Just google the term Filibuster to see what a shambles the US political system has become, and there's nothing Obama can possibly do against it.

The American right wing have a very different view to the issue of public healthcare and regard it as the poor effectively stealing from the rich. It seems a very alien point of view to European liberals.

The problem with US politics right now is, too much ideology and not enough common sense!

Obama can recover from this, especially now the Republicans have to help clear up the mess they helped make.

As for Glen Beck, I love him, he's the funniest thing on TV

We're both talking about different uses for the same word.

Btw, none of it makes any difference, politics is a load of sh*te. They will always do something stupid to appease the masses. Or is it appeasement that you use to measure a politician's success?

I don't really see what they have to complain about, he has only been in 2 years. Its going to take a while for his policies to work, and even longer when there are so many people determined to make them fail.
