Default what type of CCTV camera should I look at?

the CCTV camera I have over looking my rear garden has gone on the blink.
it was from maplins 2.5 years ago,
so looking to replace it.

it had a 1/4" colour CCD Image sensor with 6mm lens and 12 inferred LEDs.

Now, to replace similar at Maplins they are £50!!!!! (I'm sure I only paid £29.99 when i bought an extra one)

Looking on ebay! you can get very similar cameras about half the price.

BUT
they have some with 1/3" 3.2mm lens'

what makes a better camera?
more IR LEDs and a smaller lens?

what should I look for to get the better pictures?

tnx

Not to up on lens sizes tbh. I have it mounted under the eavs of a bay window which is north facing, so no issues with the sun really. Only 0.2lux but have a street light right next to it.

The lower the lux, the better the camera sees in the dark, 0.2lux should be

Thread hijack

I'm after a CCTV set-up. Can those Sony cams be set to record on movement detection, or can anyone recommend a decent system that does ? I'll be needing just one cam with a 90º viewing angle that can see up to about 10m min. Recording to an SD card device would be ideal, unless there's a better, cheaper alternative.

I think the motion detection comes via the Recorder DVR and i think you need a motion sensor tp activate.

I bought my 3 camera setup and DVR with hard drive recording (records about ONE month continually) cost about £300.

If you want ONE camera, have a look on ebay, plenty of UK compaies selling on there that can help.
also check youtube out search for CCTV42 they give some good tips on how/to with CCTV.
