To HD7 or not to HD7 that is the question
I can get the phone on the 21st if I choose to. It's free on the tariff I want but do I want to be right in at the start of Windows Mobile or not?
I need Sat Nav on the phone, but can't anyone that has it available, so that may be a deciding factor straight off.
Oh, Apple fan-boys need not apply

If I didn't love Apple so much it hurts I'd buy one. Should be quite an exiting ride and unlike Android it's not an 'open' system so you should feel looked after.

I probably wouldn't buy the new Windows phone, I saw a tech review on BBC news that said people would be better advised to wait for the following phone when it is more established, having said that I wouldn't get the Iphone either, I think the Iphone 4 is flawed and will no doubt be replaced failrly soon at which point Apple will admit they messed up with the Iphone 4, I actually think the 3Gs would be a better option for an Iphone.
My advice would be to go Android, have a look at the HTC Desire HD, released on the 22nd October

Does it have a virus scanner?
Does it need a virus scanner?
If the answer to either of those questions is YES, then there is NOOOO fooking way I am going to near it. I'm all for smart phones, but I want them to be end user appliances like my fridge. Not something that has to be scanned, defragged, backed up, and install disks kept at the ready.

Nope. They're out if you know where to go! Got mine today at CPW in Truro. They had 4 in and I was the first person in Truro to walk out with one from there (that will be my only ever claim to fame so thought I may as well get it in!). P4U have also had some in but sold out. Ring around and check.

resurrecting this one: a mate at work has got the Desire HD on loan at the moment (from Orange) by 'eck that's a good 'un.
I'm torn now between that and the HD7.... decisions, decisions.

FWIW, regarding the TomTom, have you emailed them to ask if Win7 compatible?
At least the Desire is smaller. That would still put me off with the HD7.
From my own point of view, I've had a good play with Android, and I'm still not convinced. But don't ask me to tell you why!! I can't put my finger on it - something about it just doesn't seem "joined-up". It's by no means as "professional"-feeling as my iphone (the one and only pro for iphone imho).
Good luck anyway.

I was torn between the HD7 and the Desire HD and finally went with the Desire HD. I've had windows phones before and wasn't overly impressed so I didnt want to be disappointed with the HD7, despite it being a sleek sexy bit of kit.
Just got to wait for the Desire HD to be sent out to me as I upgraded over the phone boo!
I did hammer my contract right down though, 18 month, 200 minutes, unltd texts, unltd net, 65 MMS all for a healthy £17.50
I kept asking them if they'd drop the minutes down even more to give me more MMS but he thought it was weird that I never make calls
