"Shared bank account" Problem.

"Shared bank account" Problem.
Yeah, I know,
Friend of my lad. Starts new job for which he needs a bank account, hasn't time to open one, so arranges the money paid into the account of a good friend.
He's on £350pw, the friend, out of work, £60 pw benefits.
Of course, you all know where this is going.
The lad WITHOUT the bank account has worked out he's owed around £200. His mate now HAS a job, again, but disputes the loss.
What, if anything, can the lads do?

...on 2nd thoughts, this bloke must be real dim, couldn't he have just opened a bank account. Takes a few mins I suspect.
It may be a new thing, but even kids can have bank accounts now!

Not a lot, if I started paying money into your bank and you started spending it then my tough luck really. He could ask for it back and try and prove it but it will be between the 2 lads

The lad should learn from his mistakes and probably take a good look at his supposed friend.
The only other thing you can do is ask the chap with the bank account to produce printed account details for payments in and out and let them both sit down over a beer and run through the transactions until they get to the bottom of it.

Not a very good mate putting money in the lads bank account when he was on benefits, that wouldnt look good if he was investigated.
The lad without the bank account is probably on JSA thats why he 'hasnt got a bank account'

Learn by his mistake
Get a statement since day one of his wages going in...and sit with his "mate" crossing off who drew what and when... that'll give the fairest breakdown of ins and outs and what's owing to whom

Makes me wonder how people get on in life. My mum and dad set up a bank account for me and I've had it ever since.
Working with the lower end of society shows me how lucky I am, a lot of 16 year olds I work with don't have bank accounts which made paying their EMA in tricky. The easiest thing to do was to open a basic bank account which didn't need masses of ID.
Even if you get paid cash, why wouldn't someone have a bank account? If someone robbed you, you'd be stuffed with a whole week's pay on you....

This whole thing of him paying money into his mates account is just odd.

I think one or two on here need a reality check.
This lad I'm on about isn't dysfunctional, but isn't that bright, has no-one to help him and didn't know HOW to get a bank account at short notice. Not everyone out there is like you lot, you know.
It wasn't until he told MY lad about it that the **** hit the fan........

Reality check? It's a bank account! Surely the fact there's a bank every 50 metres on most high streets means that quite a few people have accounts with them. Not rocket science to go into one and ask, "how do I go about opening a bank account?"
I know not everyone is like us, but there can't be many people out there who live in just a cash society these days, is there? Everything is geared up to pay by direct debit, cheque or debit/credit card, so it is a wonder how people get on. I know the poorer end of society get ripped off with pre-payment for bills etc. so how easy is it to just open an account and pay it through that?

I know of a lad, Range Rover Sport + new Barratt house, keeps a carrier bag full of "readies" in the wardrobe to avoid the Revenue... till his "mate/employee" walked off with it.

What he can do is tell the lad on benefits that unless he pays him what's due, he'll grass the lad on benefits up to the authorities for working - as the bank account will show regular funds being deposited.
OK, so the truth would out, but the hassle for the lad on benefits could be sufficient thread to get the problem sorted.
If the problem is simply that the lad working has no idea what he's paid in and taken out, then he has bigger issues.
