my ps3 console has always been loud. (so were the other 2 i sent back for the same problem)
now its out of warrenty i took it apart and fitted new thermal paste and a 19 blade fan this week. it runs cooler now...until tonight when the blu ray drive has just packed in. grrr it nearly went out of the window!
another £65. i still havnt fixed the problem with it not switching off either.

these consoles play great games but the hardware is sh*t. i hardley play it either!

I suppose its bad you have to fix it, but at least you can. Back in the day, before all these internet guides, people used to just throw away their SNES's or whatever if they went wrong.

I take it its an old style "fat". You should be able to pick up a laser for less, in the 35-45quid region. I did.

you sound unlucky mate, never had a problem with mine and its dead quiet compared to my xbox 360. which version have you got, the fat or slim.

Mine is only loud when I close it away in the AV unit with the door shut. It's too power hungry to be locked away with no space and no airflow. Mine takes about 5 minutes to calm down if I forget.....

Should have called Sony to fix. How long you had it? Official warranty is 12 months but European law means electronic goods have to be covered in accordance with the reasonable life expectancy of the device. In most cases it's a minimum of 2 years but Sony fixed my ps3 bluray drive after 2 1/2 years.

Play on mine all the time and never missed a beat and quiet as you like. A bit noisy playing blu-ray films but I have a dedicated player for that now so dont notice it.
