(rant mode on)

After picking up my *fixed* headunit on Thursday afternoon and being £80 worse off, I decided to fit it yesterday. I was up until 3am yes 3 poxy am this morning trying to get some sound out of the useless lump, all the lights come on, cd plays every feature works apart from there being no
F-$£*$& sound That's a great repair they did!

Can someone please tell me, if it is the installation at fault what it is I have done wrong as it is driving me absolutely F*(&*&^ crazy.

If I don't get it fixed by Tuesday I will have to buy a new headunit as there is no way I am driving to Germany with no music in my car.

Maybe if I kicked it out of my upstairs window it would work.

(rant mode off)

Regards dejected Ian

Ian
1. What was the initial problem?
2.What head unit is it?
3.Do you have any amps?

As much info as possible as you never know...

Luke

Will be back on later

Ian
Is this a "MOSFET" type unit. (4 x 40 watts etc)It should say on the front.
I had one (not the 9000).
I found that also I could not get sound out of it.
FIRST WE MUST ASUME THAT THE UNIT HAS BEEN FIXED.......................

1. Turn unit off. Turn your lights of the car on. See if the unit controls lights are on.(NOT THE FULL DISPLAY JUSY SOME BUTTONS)If not check your wiring. Yellow and red if I am correct.(Permanent/switched +)
I had to swap them around for the display lights to work, when the unit is off.HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT I MEAN!!!

2.Go into the menu controls.Check the active crossover settings .(EXTERNAL/INTERNAL)
I am really trying to remember!!!!!
I went crazy too. But found that these units have so many functions........

CHIARK GET OUT OF BED YOU ARE NEEDED!!!!!

I got it to work by changing settings.

If not .Take it back and if it is broken. When you pick it up tell them you want it demonstated first.

call me on 07958 425508.If you need "LIVE HELP"!!

Luke not sure if this would help you make a diagnosis but here goes.

I originally had my Pioneer DEH-P9000R fitted in my last car for 12 months with no problems at all.
When I tried to fit it into my Scoob I connected the Earth to a positive feed by mistake and one of the cars fuses blew. I replaced the fuse checked the headunit and it lit up and functioned perfect apart from no sound. I then tried connecting an amp to one of the line outs and still no sound

I took the stereo to the repair shop explained that I was getting no sound from the speaker leads or the RCA's, a few days later told it is fixed and a bill for £80 for repairing the onboard amp was presented to me.

I am pretty sure that it is not a bad connection to the speaker's as I have fitted all new speaker wires in my car and I have also tried a speaker directly connected to the headunit itself without any sound. The one sound it does make is what I can only describe as an electrical click from the front left speaker when turning the headunit on.

Any help gratefully received thanks Ian.

Illumination will tell us if the unit is wired correctly. As this will provide memory.
So any changes to the settings will be stored.
No memory- No changes. No changes maybe no sound

This was mentioned as we are presuming the unit was fixed. So either it is a wiring fault or settings.

Thats why.........................

Before installing the unit, check it works. Hook it up to +12 and earth from your battery with some temporary leads. Then chuck a single speaker across a pair of the speaker outs.

If no sound, psyche yourself up for another rant and rave at the shop, as they've "pulled a fast one".

If it works... If it's on an ISO connector, check that the ISO connector which handles the speaker outputs is correctly seated in the plug.

I suspect your amp stage will be knackered.

Give Adam a bell - he's damn knowledgeable, and could probably give you a better diagnostic walk through than this.

My money's on the internal mosfets being knackered and the repair shop testing it by using the RCA outs... Would be pleased to be proved wrong tho!

Mail me with your plans for Thursday.

Ian, where are you? I can lend you a minidisc unit for the trip if you get no joy, but I'm in Yorkshire.

Dunno where you stand, legally. I'd guess that the repair is guaranteed, so take it back ASAP. Standard "complaining" rules apply - keep it civil...

Nick.

Well, I double checked everything that I have done and still no joy!
I phoned the shop up and they had the cheek to say it must be my instalation without even seeing it for themselves!
I am going into the shop in the morning and I am not leaving untill it is fixed! or they fit a temporary unit of the same spec! AS THERE IS NO WAY I AM DOING WITHOUT FOR THE RING TRIP!
I have wasted 4 F-ing days on the F-ing *&987()&9078()*&()*7789- ARGH!!!!! ARGH!!!!!!!
That feels better!

Just out of interest where do I stand with regards to entitlement to a loaner as they have obviously tried it on!

Regards FED UP and Ian

Chris I hope you can sing in tune!
