Never hurt Microsoft. They based their business model on getting their software on as many manufacturers as possible though obviously theirs was a licensing model and Android only charge for the developer accounts.

The real winner will be Google.

If Apple, the iPhone and the iOS keep market share then Google winds because so many of their products are on the iPhone.

If Android becomes the default market leader for developers and handsets, then they win.

But I see your point about ' whoring' out the product to the lowest bidders and diluting the brand

i see on the apple store, 16gb to 32gb wifi ipad is £70 difference. I reckon, if there was an 8GB wifi iPad, it'd be £350. Still a big premium over Next's (under)pants £180 model.
