I've lost count of the number of times I've got directions to businesses from google, and it turns out they aren't actually where google says they are

And the general concensus seems to be; you'll never get them to put it right, so just stop paying them :

You need to create a google account and add your business details to Google Places, takes a couple of weeks for the changes to happen.

Is this for your website?

The answer is well designed metatags.

I keep getting spammed by a couple of 'specialists' who offer to get you at the top of the Google searches - one of them didn't even have themselves on the first page. For at least one of my products the Google search puts me number one (I just checked!)

Metatags are keywords that you link to your webpage that Google uses for its search.

Of course if your business is one of thousands doing something then it is harder to differentiate yourself and then it comes down to paying Google - and it can be a lot!

Sorry, but metatags have very little, if any, importance when it comes to SEO anymore (granted they used to, but that was a long time ago). The description tag is what is used to display on the search results (which helps the user when looking at the results), but the keyword tag will have little or no impact on your rankings.

If you want to get good results, there is a lot more to it, such as:

* Semantically correct HTML - good use of header, paragraph tags and using tags which describe the content
* Good well written content including phrases that you want to be found for (I assume you have done some research on what you want?)
* Strong links from similar, worthy sites (not just any old site as quantity is not a factor on it's own)

vallumlj, If you want to put up the link to you site, I can give you some specific pointers.

http://www.perfectdaymakeup.co.uk/default.html

That is her web site and she wants to be found under these headings

make up artist maidstone / kent
beauty saloon maidstone / kent
wedding make up
airbrush make up

and so on.

If you enter wedding make up maidstone on google then go to more results next to google maps she is under D. The problem is she is called Maidstone and the number 7 is missing from her phone number.

We have changed it about 10 times but it keeps saying the edit can not be saved. Is this because google have to change it first and we are trying to many times?

She appears on the sponsored links on the side some times but she wants to be on the main page.

Thanks for the help

That site needs quite a bit of work! MTH!

contact us button is almost invisible?

you dont need to centre everything...

why do you want those search terms? i just checked them in google adwords and I can't seem to find any traffic searching for them? no point targeting keywords or phrases that no one ever searches for?

I'd agree that it needs a bit of work, but it should be fairly straightforward depending on how your site is created and what control you actually have over the output.

Do you host it yourself? Is it a content management system you used to create it (I notice that VistaPrint is mentioned at the bottom, so did they do it for you) and if so does it allow you total control over the HTML?

I will ask her. I know it is through Vista Print and is one of the cheapest ones they do so you can't change everything.

Any tips or advice would be great.

She used them words as that is what she does and that is were we live

Any suggestion for what ad words we should use?

Thanks for the help.

they may be what you do and where you live but no point in using them if no one will be typing them in to google, sign up for adwords but dont put any adds on just use the tools to fin some better key phrases.

I have several sites running through adwords and they cost me an absolute fortune but it brings me nearly all of my sales.

The fastest was to burn money is not with petrol and a lighter its with an adwords account and I am sorry to say that your site will not be up to scratch you will get a high bounce rate, which is people immediately clicking back. work on the standard seo and IMO make a better site (which does not need to cost much!) do what i did learn about hosting (£5 a month for your site) and use some sort of template system similar to joomla/wordpress etc that you can install on the hosting.

It's unlikely to be the keywords that are keeping you there though - if you've had the domain a long time, have proven to have good content, and are targeting certain specific key words/phrases (and/or don't have much competition for them) then you could test through your analytics account to see what affect removing them has. My guess would be nothing.
