Default Amazonele.com Emails - possible scam

Mrs Funkii opened up her Inbox in Hotmail to find that something has sent an e-mail to everyone in her address book advising how she has bought an i-pad from Amazonele and saved her self many $.

First she realised was when my mum replied to her asking if she'd sent it to her in error, then everyone started responding asking the same thing.

Anyone else had this happen to them ?

Never heard of them but the site exists, it appears to be a Chinese based English site with all the security stuff and pictures of b/card, m/card etc as well as delivery by DHL only one entry on Google http://www.amazonele.com/

Nothing on Google about them in relation to buying scamming experiences.

In Computing terms what is this ? a worm or something? and how did it get access to Mrs Funkii's addr book, MS dont pass the info on AFAIK. ???

hotmail security is pants, chinese hackers are able to access and use hotmail accounts all the time now, check your signature and forwarding settings as they often change them.

anopther reason why not to use hotmail!

Hope they don't do that to my address book having opened the link. They aren't slow off the mark these shysters.

Change password, change reminder for password, also change the alternate email if poss.
All that should help but yes, to echo the previous post, hotmail security is pants.

Oh and don't click on random links people may send you

Cheers Torque, I'll make those amendments for her, as far as I know she has not clicked on any random links.
