I don't think it is as funny as it used to be but like the above it still amuses me.
Even more so that Americans do not seem to realise the bitter comments about their society that are sprinkled throughout each episode.

A lot of British programs like to go out on a high and only do a few series. American ones pride themselves on quantity (a bit like their *****). The office did 2 series in the UK and now into series 7 in the U.S. and for me the quality goes down as time goes on. Same with the simpsons, I thought it started going down after about episode 200...

Old episodes of the Simpsons make me laugh as much now as when I first seen them but the new episodes just leave me thinking that the horse has certainly been flogged. The old episodes were crudely drawn, simple looking but were alot smarter in terms of the story they told but the new HD Ready/Intelligent Empty episodes are not nonsense.
Although after reading how many of NSR actually like Chris Moyles and his brand of humour maybe this was the wrong place to ask this question.

****e .. the Simpsons will live for ever !!
Fox just sent word that they've picked up The Simpsons for two more seasons. So, if you've stopped counting, that means the FOX staple will have completed 22 seasons and an astonishing 493 episodes by the time this pickup runs out. I'd imagine they'd want to push for 500, so don't be surprised to see a 23rd season, as well.
Look, say what you will about what the show has become; it's not as funny as it used to be, it doesn't make news anymore, blah blah blah. It's still quite shocking that in this day and age of quick-trigger-fingered network executives that any show can last as long as The Simpsons has.
Anyone who saw The Simpsons debut in 1989 would have never guessed it would still be on today. Why? Because it was hilarious and just a little bit subversive (at least according to the first President Bush). You would think that creatively the show would have tanked long ago or the novelty of it would have worn off to the point that people would stop watching it. But it keeps chugging along.

The first simpsons series were a bit naff; certainly the ones that focussed more on Bart - I was still at school at the time, so it probably suited my immaturity back then, but watching them nowadays and they are not that funny. It was only when it got into full swing in at the end of the millenium with the US political/society digs and started focussing more on Homer that it became so good.
I stopped watching it when Sky threw outs its toys with Virgin and pulled Sky one. And haven't really watched it much since as teh time slots are all screwed up (I know I could V+ it, but I can't be arsed as I'll end up filloing it up with a load of old repeats to try and catch up with some of the more current ones).
I caught an epsiode last week, and TBH it was boring as hell (the one where Homer's mother dies), and I'm thinking what the hell happened? Maybe I've grown out of it?
These days I end up watching stuff like The Big Bang (I know a guy just like Sheldon, so it makes it even more hilarious).
