Default looking or another dog been offered a 3months old pit

right i have bought a new house and its end of terrace and just to beef up security also we have the lea valley canal near me which runs for ever as well as a forest not too far so it would be nice to go for walks there as its literaly round the corner from house.

also due to my injury im slightly restricted for now, however i have missed having a dog and i was chatting to a mate who offered me a 3month old red nose pitbull that hasnt been registerd, chipped or neutered.
i said ill have to discuss with the mrs about it as she aint keen on them due to there lovely reputation.

we both work 5 days a week and i sometimes do 6 is that going to cause issues with the dog. as my previous dog always had someone around him.

also if i get her neutered is that going to change her charecter someone told me they go dull. i dont want her to be vicious but if some one tries to jump in my back yard then i hope she wouldnt lick him to death

p.s

i dont want to be bothered by the law if i comply with the below would i be ok?

They must be neutered.
They must be insured.
They must be muzzled and kept on a lead in public.
They must be microchipped.
They must be registered.

No...They do all they can to keep them off the street, I know of 3 upstanding citizens in what is considered a nice part of York had there application rejected for the past 7 years.
Excellent family dog in the right hands.

bit of a shame a nice dog was very friendly and playfull when I met her, a young couple currently have her and to be honest they don't seem like suitable owners. I was looking aFter mates one while he was on holiday for a month it's was 7 months red nose was stubbern as **** but responded well to treats he has his one registered and chipped he has all the relevant paper work for him and to be honest I used to walk him in the morning and evening before and after work and It was a doddle. I had an American Akita years ago and he was a little over protictive but he was great around other dogs and people, but there fur used to get every where.

If you're restricted due to injury, how are you going to exercise it? Get a burglar alarm instead.

That sounds great.... you may wish to also consider some mild physical abuse and mistreatment to ensure it fulfils its maximum potential.

+1, and maybe a good moggy to chase any vermin trying to infiltrate from the canal.

fair point about leaving it home alone I think the last you want is a dog that doesn't get socilised that often.

my mrs is a jogging freak and has been for the past 7 years so iguess I can leave the walking to her for now but leaving it home worries me a little too as the energey will turn in to frustration which can't be good for the dog.

As above, a pure, or even cross breed pitbull is illegal in the UK.

You'd be much better getting something like a doberman which are exceptionally nice dogs (if trained well) but are big enough to act as a deterant. If you really need the 'look' of a pitbull get a staffi. To be honest, any half decent big dog is a deterant to people entering your home as most people are aware that dogs will protect their territory against suspicious activity.

dobbermans and rottwielers also have a wonderfull reputation and I think they are less predictable rottwielers have 5 diffrent breeds in them and have only been around that long so finding the right one might be a daunting task but will worththe punt.

to e honest I was looking for any nice dog this one is up for free and that why imgiving it a real think.

Restricted due to injury, both working 5-6 days a week.

What have you possibly got to offer a dog that will require training, exercise and social education

Well I think a Red Nose Pitbull is a just what you need, an asset to any home. They love playing with children and other dogs

If you're out for so much you would need to keep him outside and I wouldn't bother to train him which might curb his natural aggression. Perhaps you should leave a back gate open so he can access the woods and keep any prying neighbours in place!

There is so much nonsense on SN about these super dogs it makes a refreshing change to read your post.

I would say the reasoning is all wrong. Because its free is not the right reason to decide to get a dog.

I would say get nothing at all, or something soft and loyal for the missus to jog with.

Agreed.

Also if you work five maybe six days a week why do you even want a dog? Regardless of the breed it's not fair on the animal.

When would you train it? Take it for walks?

Not really a sensible thing to do.

Certainly not fair on a dog to be left alone all day. Cats can take care of themselves but it is different for a dog.

if I said I was going to use it for fighting or chain out side, then fair play some people are over reacting slightly and some are just a ting like winkers lol this particular dog belongs to some Chav who thought it was a great idea to bread the dogs and he has a few left behind he can't keep them all indoors so his built some horrible kennels outside in the garden and in the rain.thanks for the ones that gave honest opinions.

to be honest I thought it's better if I take it becuase by the looks of it will end up with another chav that will proberly breed it and your back to square one.

dogs like german sheperds ect will always find home dogs like this won't and proberly become part of a breeding factory, dog fighting or end up been put down around here.

i understand and I appretiate it ain't fair on the dog to be alone for 8 hours a day 5 days a week technicaly 4days as I'm off on Tuesdays. but surely atleast someone working will be able to provide for the dog unlike some chavs who spends all day at home like to pass judgment before even thinking.

Aren't they illegal though? So if it gets out of your garden (which is a good possibility with it being at home on it's own for much of the time) and it attacks somebody, you will go to prison, all because you are thinking with your heart and not your head.
Tigers are endangered, doesn't mean I want one though!

I have 6ft fences on one side only so yes point taken, I haven't actualy got her yet just thinking about it. and about the law and pitbulls the police are useless down my my end gangs with hoodies walk with them to intimdate people to fight to bread them to look cool ect police don't care in north London don't know about other parts of the uk. if there is a copper on here that ain't too happy about what I've said he can look up statstics about robberies, stabbing, shooting and much more in north London.
