Cool I'm flying in the A380 soon

Home from Dubai in a couple of weeks!

Only economy and I bet it'll take an age to get on and off but I'm still excited

I'd rather fly economy in a 737 or A320.

Especially if I get a row to myself.

Being stuck in the middle row of a widebody is the worst.

Plus with more people more chance of a baby crying or annoying/drunk wierdos going nuts.

I'll make sure I'm the most annoying drunk and then there won't be a problem

Have gone out of my way (as I normally fly KLM because I like Amsterdam Airport) to fly the Emirates A380 to or from Heathrow . Have now had 6 trips on it and it still amazes me. So, so quiet on take off. Totally interactive entertainment covering everything you could wish for; slightly more seat room; cameras at the nose, tail and underneath which stay on throughout take off and landing etc.
And it takes no longer to board as the 2 decks are served by different ramps!!
I love flying (roughly 100-200K miles annually) and only Concorde gave me a better feeling than the 380.

I was on an Air France one last weekend, Paris to Heathrow! They didn't have enough of them to enable sensible long haul utilisation so one was sat in Paris for most of the day, so they were flying to London for a bit of promo. It seemed to be working as my flight was full - I dare say the most profitable flight across the channel that day! I got an exit row seat on the upper deck but was disappointed to be without a window (Seatguru missed out that info). Still enjoyed it though, especially the view from the tail camera as mentioned above.

Flew on 5 777 300-er planes in August heading to Singapore via Dubai and then after the hols back via Columbo and Dubai. I have to say the european leg of each direction Boeing planes were better kitted (touch screens were better and the menu driven o/s was easier to use) than the middle east section planes. Having the little ones with us made it easier getting on as families got preferential boarding, saying that in Dubai and columbo the ignorant shi'tes just dont understand the practice that is queuing.

Totally agree with Dave, Emirates A380 was the second 001 flight I'd taken, first was Concorde. Can't say that it was anywhere near on par with BA's finest but it was very exciting. Quiet, Luxurious - even in Economy - and Spacious.

I always found that falling asleep until the top of descent was the best way to fly as a passenger!

It's typical of the 3rd world. Poor socialisation.

But its such a thrill B2Z, watching it all rushing towards you and wondering if it will really make it or not, and planning how to deal with an engine failure should it happen. Never boring thats for sure!

Was over in Calgary a couple of months back, one of my team from Perth was over, first time I had met him as he came as part of an aquisition and he flew over on the A380 in Business class, now I know our company arent keen on buying business tickets except on very long journies and for execs (of which I am not one), I smelt a whiff of BS heavy in the air when he said it was his brother flying it and it was him who got him the upgrade (Quantas), he then produced his Iphone and showed me some photos of him and a genetically similar looking chap in a pilots uniform sat grinning on the flight deck of an A380.

I flew on the A380 to/from Dubai about 18 months ago. Great experience. Loved the bar at the back

i've been on the singapore airlines A380 a few times.

I pick the upper economy deck where it's 2 seats by the window.

There is usually a higher staff to passengers ratio on upper eco too.

I thought that as well, generally most turbulence is just mild fluttering up and down, not enough to throw your drink over, plus its a big plane so likely to be less affected by the bulk of turbulence and if its really bad you are on your own anyway, you know, when Stewardesses are bouncing off the roof.

They just ask you to take a seat (with your drink in hand of course) - there are a couple of 3 to 4 person bench type seats at either side, and put anything that might roll over safely under the bar. If it gets really bad, or goes on for more than a few minutes, they ask you to return to your normal seat. There was also a big screen TV on the aircraft I was on board.

Thanks, if I can check in on line with Emirates, I'll try and get one of those seats.

I'd agree with what others have said.

Flown the SQ A380's on 3 occasions and it was very very impressive, so smooth and quiet the first time we flew on it I didn't even realise we'd taken off, SQ entertainment system was superb also, not to mention the overall service. Although when they first arrived on the scene I was very reluctant to fly it, I was going to give it at least 2 years in service before trying, just in case ! in the end I waited 6 months lol.

With regards to the bar, AF used to have one in the smoking area at the back end of their A340's, probably cant smoke there now though which is a good thing, how did we ever allow smoking on planes and trains....

Seen it once so far on departure 06L at EGCC. We are about 3 miles away and we dont often get big planes like that coming over as they do a noise abatement turn.. but this thing just came straight over, so quiet. You could almost hear the power in the engines but not the noise - if that makes any sense at all!
