Thumbs down Vets Fees

My cats paw swelled up and looked like a frying pan, last week. Swift visit to the Vets. Antibiotic injection and course of anti inflammatries. £80 lighter and an appointment for today to check up.
I was in there 1 minute at most. £11.50
Not worth claiming on the insurance, but they want me to go back in two weeks for another check up even though his paw is now fine.
I always thought follow up checks were free
The offending beast

That looks like a small horse

Wife requested I take her cat to vat because of a watery eye
Was in for less than 10 mins - bill was nearly 50 quid with a tube of eye drops.

It's Jasey who's got the horse. His cat is hooooooooooooooooge

I have no idea where these Vets get their charges from. Dick Turpin at least had the grace to wear a mask

vets bill are astronomical. When I had horses, one of them ran up £850 in fees in the first 3 months I owned him.

Our vet drives a Scooby and I think we've paid for quite a bit of that over the last couple of years

PS.
"Not worth claiming on the insurance, but they want me to go back in two weeks for another check up even though his paw is now fine"

I'd ask if check was free. If not I wouldn't bother if moggy is fine.

Our poor cat was ill and we either had to watch her die or pay up several hundred quid.

My local vet drives a Porsche, not a Legacy estate...

Craig next door took his elderly cat in and was told quite bluntly, " £35 + VAT to terminate, or £150 just to listen to his heart ( out of hours )"

A mate of mine is a vet; getting qualified requires a 6 year degree course - so you're paying for the time of an exceptionally well-qualified person. After putting in all that effort, and taking on as much responsibility as they do, I wouldn't begrudge my vet a nice car.

The fees tend to be structured so that the routine stuff effectively subsidises the expensive equipment that's only needed occasionally, and which simply couldn't be paid for otherwise.

Without doing it this way, routine vaccinations might be cheaper, but there's no way many owners would be able to afford the treatment if their pet required X-rays or other more complicated procedures.

Local vet wanted 400 for spaying, but on the flip side other treatments have been reasonable.
Most vets seem to have a fee scale based on the size of the animal, and a consultation is a consultation regardless of how long it takes.
As for follow ups, mine has never charged for check ups following treatments.

Flip side, the local emergency vet charged £80 for "call out" to his own house lol. Then £45 for the consultation and £40 for an ibuprofen shot.

I think the 11 odd quid is ok

crikey, some huge figures there. our cat had the snip, various boosters and flea jab not that long ago and came in at under £60.

we pay £9.95 a month and get various things included like 6 month check up, his remaining boosters, flea treatment etc plus discounts on other things.

emergency vets, now there is ouch, just after last christmas our old cat was very very poorly £125 fee for seeing our cat, and then £50 to put him to sleep, cry cry cry. £175 and that was with a load of out of compasion.

talk about robbing you when you need help the most

One of our other cats had a bad eye when we got her and it turned out that her eyeball had burst !!!! and that cost us a fortune as it was over the New Years weekend
