I know if you have an iphone from O2 that O2 will unlock it for you. You just apply via their website.

I don't know if this works for an O2 iphone outside of an O2 contract.

If you are running s/w version 4.0.2 or lower, then goto www.jailbreakme.com on the iphone using Safari and simply 'slide to jailbreak'. When the process has completed install ultrasn0w and run it, that will be it done.

There are other ways if the phone has been jailbroken before. Feel free to PM me

Do not pay a penny for any of them, its all out there foc

edit; how to vid here

No probs

A couple of things, turn off the automatic update in iTunes, if you allow iTunes to update it past 4.0.1 then you will lose the JB and the unlock, and at this moment in time will be unable to get it back.

And also, go into Cydia and click on 'make my life easier'. This backs up your JB to a external server so if you have any probs in the future you can revert to where you are now and remain JB and unlocked

One more, goto Cydia again and search for and install 'pdf patch'. This closes the loophole that allowed you to use jailbreakme and is a security issue

Out of curiosity, can you unlock any phones yourself (for free) or is this just an iPhone thing?

If you have the s/w and or reqired h/w the obviously, yes.

I've been at it for about 6 years and it just gets easier and easier. If you search long and hard you can get the info to do some by a remote code, either free or very cheap, like £1

The iPhone hacking is a labour of love for some and they distribute their success proudly and foc (you can donate)

I'll have a hunt about, I need to unlock a Nokia. Would rather do it myself if I can, than pay a tenna plus.

Reading this thead with interest as just j/b + unlocked my sons 3gs this way. so okay couple off questions ??

1/ where do I turn off auto updates in itunes so that it wont go past this 4.0.1 ?? do I have to do this on both the pc installed itunes and also itunes on the iphone itself ??

2/ installing this " pdf patch " doing this would prevent me ever jailbreaking / unlocking the phone again if ever required say in the event off having to restor - yep ??

3/ would this " make life easier " within cydia cure most problems in the event off lossing the jailbreak ??

thats it !! sorry for all the questions just a bit new to all this, things change so much so quickly in the iphone homebrew dept !!

Open iTunes on your PC, click 'edit'-'preferences' and in the General window un-check the 'Check for updates automatically' box, thats that done

No! As it is installed through Cydia you can unistall it when ever you like. It's just that it is a security threat in the s/w that the hackers used, but if left open it can be used by undesirables to control your i-device via PDF applications. There are programs out there (other than i-Tunes) that will restore a JB device if ever need to do a full restore. This site is a good starting point and has links to most if the info you will require, happy reading

Yes and no, there is usually a cut off time for backing up, to do with Apples signing process, as long as you back up SHSH Blobs at Cydia by hitting the 'Make My Life Easier' link before the next update is signed you will always be able to revert to where you are now and re jailbreak and unlock your device, the best advise is, not to update the IP s/w until you have checked that the new s/w has been jailbroken

Hope that helps you

edit; direct link to how to restore

Okay perfect mate thats great.

1/ have now unticked check for updates automatically within itunes on the pc so thats fine ( take it by this it works for both itunes version and iphone firmware itself ?? )

2/ downloaded and installed the pdf patch within cydia

3/ cant see " make my life easier " within cydia ? did notice that on my cydia homescreen it says" this device has SHSHs on file for iphone os /ios: 4.0.4.01 "

did not make them myself ie. by using this " make my life easier " option so just wonder if the new jb possibly does it for you now ?? as I say have searched for this " MMLE " option within cydia but just dont see it anywhere ??

appreciatte the link on how to restore thats great have saved that into my favs !!

No, iTunes will still prompt you to update iTunes s/w as annd when it becomes available, no problems here as any new JB's are usually built or updated around the latest version.

The device has previously been jailbroken (suprise suprise) and the blobs saved, which means you are able to go back to iOS 4.0 or 4.0.1 in the future using the link you have saved in you favs
