Depends on your other half as to how they will cope - If she's a "soppy mare" then she'll struggle.
Strong independent types tend to not miss your farting & belching at all .
Plus they always enjoy the pressies you have to buy for them and the airmiles always help come holiday time (We once had a fortnight to San Francisco - Upper class with Virgin on the airmiles I got whilst jetting all over the place)

Not like it use to be, before mobiles, web cams and the like, then you where really away
We missed each other sure, but the £'s and perks help smooth the way
As they say, "Distance makes the heart grow fonder".
I agree with Jasey below.
My wife didn't seem to mind me being away lots

I used to travel a lot with work.
Malta - usually 5 or 6 days each trip.
S.Africa - each trip would be 3 months at a time
US a few times - but usually only a few days at a time and I found this the hardest of the lot - seemed to take me days to get over a trip.
A couple of years ago I spent probably 3 months in Dublin (I live in N.Ireland)
It wrecked the missus head for some reason.
I'd drive down Sunday night and drive back Friday evening.
Currently Belgium is my only destination - 5 days at a time
Beer is great there by the way

Other way around for me - my missus is the one who works away at least 3 nights each week.
Mainly only Europe wide, but her company operates out of 60 countries so there's hope yet...

My mate as recently had to give up working throughout Europe, well it was really just working in Belgium, the mrs had a baby and she demanded he comes home every night.Miserable B1tch is still moaning though as she said he don't get home early enough .. As said need to have someone who is quite independent and understanding,No good if you got a mrs that is at home thinking you are spending every night in some German Brothel

I used to a lot - Asia, South Am, US etc. Loved it. Changed jobs when we had kids though - you find you REALLY want to see the little b's and help form their character. My daughter could do doughnuts at 5 and now helps me on Photoshop at 7!!!!)
