Use of the word "Cucumber"
I am friends with a family, and have been for years that use the word Cucumber as a general day to day word. If our dogs are playing and get a bit frisky, apparently they are "cucumburing" each other, if one of them leaves their Facebook account open and someone types on it they have been "Facebook Cucumbered" and there are other examples where they just drop it into conversation. Anyone else think this is a bit distasteful and an inappropriate use of what should be a word reserved to describe an edible, fleshy fruit of a cylindrical shape with rounded ends and having a green, warty skin ? it's funny as they are normally a bit of a soppy bunch.
I personally wouldn't use it like that in case someone in earshot has been a victim of a cucumber or knew someone who had as it would be insensitive and trivialise what is a very serious fruit, am I being over sensitive, the wife hates it as well.

I think the misuse of the word cucumber is rather unfair when you consider how popular it has been down the years especially for afternoon tea by the "enlightened classes".
It is so handy for refreshing the eyes after a good night out or if you have been hit in the eye for that matter.
I am sure there will be other uses that people can think of too.

So,are you inferring 'do you fancy a cucumber sandwich?' could be taken the wrong way?
or as Ken Dodd would say,"isn't a lovely day for sticking a cucumber through your neighbours letter-box & shouting, the 'Martians are coming, the Martians are coming!!'"
