Default Can my boss put up my sales targets

To cut a long story short i am the only rep at my company who is actually making them money. I have had a great 6 months and now he is planning on putting everyones targets up by at least 20%. I am on average 65% a month up on last year.

My question is can he do this half way through the year. Does he need to give me notice?

Thanks for the help but I think the answer is he can do what ever he wants but I thought I would check.

That is just the way of life.

I am a self employed operator, yet i am still given targets, and hassled when "they" think i should be doing more

My mate is a manager at Quick Fitt and his targets are constantly being pushed up if he has a good spell.

Sounds like he should recalibrate the targets - especially since your smashing them.

Yes I was a sales manager and they can do what they want

Performance management is coming into companys more and More now to weed out the weaker ones
As long as you are beating everyone else you will be ok

Yes they can and it is a common tactic for companies to avoid paying more commision than they need to by making your targets higher.

Our targets can change on a month to month basis, depending on how campaigns are going and/or performance. As said, it's just the way it is.
Just keep smashing them and if the way they work is not for you, move on.

Hit target, your target goes up.

Miss target, lose your job.

I thought the world of sales was fairly straight forward!

I reckon that targets are set by managers who are incapable of running a workforce in the best manner.

In sales or lead generation, targets are a requirement rather than a manager being a twonk. You need to see value of work versus cost of resources, so targets are necessary.

Where I am, the better I do, the harder the targets become but the value of the targets overall and each lead/sale towards that is increased.

Whereas targets for police, doctors and parking wardens is daft. imho
