Funny how they all go on about Senna's legendary ability
but if you look at all the real toe to toe clashes, its always with Mansell
They go on about his legendary drive at Monaco, but it was Mansell who
passed Senna, funny how they forget that lol
Red 5 was always one of my Hero's

In terms of fitness and devotion and sheer outright skill, nothing beats Senna.
But Mansell, against all the odd has always had an amazing knack to get the best out of every given opertunity and turn it into a win. *****? Well Senna had *****, maybe Mansell's were just bigger?

I agree with Ali.
Mansell's deternination with the full backing of his wife to get into racing in the first place and his sheer effort at the wheel in order to succeed were second to none.

In the vid Mansell is tustling with "Stig" Lennart Blomqvist, John Watson and Jimmy Mcrae three top drivers, in fact the the field is a who's-who of motorsport!
It is a fecking great race to watch (again) and i wish there was more of this sort of racing about!

I remember as a teenager going on a long coach trip with my brother to the Italian GP at Monza in 1986. We weren't actually Mansell fans when we set off (more Ferrari), but the coach was primarily full of a big group of Brummie pi$$heads who were all Mansell fans, so we sort of joined them.
It was one of those hilarious journeys that you would only put up with as a teenager. It was non-stop drinking (for them), but we got to a nice hotel on Lake Como on the Saturday and off to the race on the Sunday. Mansell blasted into the lead in his Williams, built up a healthy gap over second-placed team-mate Piquet, but then the gap started to reduce again towards the end and Piquet went on to win, because unbeknown to us Mansell's seat-belts had come undone and he was being thrown around the cockpit, held in only by the bristles of his moustache.

I always remember Mansell after a GP looking physically drained, sweating buckets and barely able to stand up on some occasions (ok this was his latter years and he was no spring chicken anyway).
Compare that to modern driver who at the end of a race jumps out the car as fresh as a daisy. Its almost like modern F1 cars seem to have a/c, PAS, automatic gearbox (well it its so close to one, they may as well call it an automatic), assisted brakes, maybe even massage seat with buttock ventilation.

He was a great driver and considering he drove at a time when the cars were far more unreliable than today and when Senna, Prost and Piquet were driving 31 wins is a pretty amazing statistic.

Mansell always provided a race that had you sat on the edge of your seat
Best I remember was his overtaking manouvere on Berger on the penultimate lap at Mexico in 1990 - on very worn tyres (he had been trying to preserve the tyres on the prev laps)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2g1y...eature=related
Also his US CART title in 1993 in his first season was incredible - he consistently set new lap records at most of the tracks he raced on for the first time.

Here's Mansell putting Senna in his place
