Reading other threads, I see there are still holier-than-thou supposed subaru owners harping on about the dangers of the odd head to head with another driver on the roads. Wish these sanctimonious losers would put their sandal clad foot on the brake pedal of a forrester or something and leave their rantings for fellow God club members early on Sunday mornings.

Have they never gone over the speed limit, never even had a twitchy right foot when in sight of a porsche etc giving it some?

Such a big sin to have fun with another car in very good driving conditions Whats the point of getting a car like an impreza if you do not intend to enjoy it to your potential allows?

And im also fed up of the "leave it for track days" brigade. Oh yes, we can all be bothered shelling out a pretty penny (tyres, brakes, fees, insurance etc etc), driving miles away and then only to have some wally who thinks that they are on a track that everything is safe and they the best thing since Nigel Mansell ramming into me.

Im not talking about tearing around wide eyed demolition derby style I drive around normally most of the time, but if the opportunity arises at a set of lights or in an open road im not going to sit there "driving miss daisy" style. Think credit should be given for knowing when to back off without things getting out of hand.

So for all those that think speeding/having fun with other cars in an appropiate road environment is wrong, and no-one apart from themselves know what constitutes safe driving, sell your subaru and get a 1.8 mondeo with the rest of the sheep, or a new shape wrx
(sorry couldnt resist!)

Oh by the way, full no claims protected, no "fault" accidents and no points ever. Touch wood.

12 disciples you need, im one

But i goto say there is a point when a spirited jolt through open country road, turns into a little to much.

Like novas driving around towns and built up areas at silly speeds.

I love to blast in country lanes, but as soon as i see on coming traffic, ill slow down, even if the road is still clear, and when they hav passed, BOOT IT

Then again im am only 25 and not pushing 100 like some kidding

you no what i agree with what you said, a subura does not attract your family buyer really and it does not appeal to old people. Its desired by people who are into there cars and fast one's at that. Your rignt MR 555 why buy a fast car when your never going to use the power? I am not suipd on the roads and I will always take up a race when offered, like pis*ing on boxters and nailing TT's.

well said.

Maybe some people don't fell the need to bleet about it. Maybe some people feel this is the wrong place to put up such childish posts.

I suspect that most owners know exactly how quick our cars are, and don't need to prove it to every ars*hole driving a Halfords special, who eggs us on.

As much as like driving quickly, I can't honestly say that there isn't one road, where I consider it's genuinly SAFE to drive, let alone RACE, at the type of speeds our cars are capable of.

Yes of course we can do it, and most times get away with it, but ask Pete Croney about driving down a road he knows like the back of his hand, at a "sensible" speed, and the horse that he hit.

If you know of any roads, where it's safe to race, where the unexpected NEVER happens, let us all know, then the less childish amongst us can stay well clear.

Mark.

Agree 100% mate.

Middle aged Middle class undersexed bores, usually have std scooby, and also the people harping on about "maxpower brigade" just because youve got quadlamps, an exhaust, or lowered your scoob...

Why have they got scoobs in the first place?

You've gotta admire my sandals then! I've got a 22B (my 4th scoob) and I've never been tempted to 'race' anyone on the road. I know I could beat most triers if I wanted, and I've nothing to prove.
Does it make you feel really special when u out-drag a Nova off the lights? Even if you think you never put anyone at risk, just think...you are encouraging the other driver, and by 'beating' him you'll just make him try harder/act stupider next time, whether he's racing you or someone else.

I drive fairly quickly (roads / conditions permitting... ie. the usal.. Not in built up areas - empty dual carriageways - if they exist ) and If I get caught at 20mph over the speed limit or what ever then Ill pay the fine or take the ban.. If you cant do the time dont do the crime..

And if someone else has a problem with my driving then report me, so long as I dont crash into your car, run your pet or family over, what real harm is there in me setting of a bit quicker than normal in my car?

And Im sorry... I think 80% of the people on here would go for it if an escort cossie was on your right...

David

Edited cos I sounded like a ****.

I just don't see the point in bragging about stuff like I was a 17 year old Kev and hooning around in a deathtrap Nova. If you can't take valid points like a grown up, which funnily enough most of us on here are, then don't bother posting cr@p.

Cheers,

Nick.

P.S I have posted up on here once about having fun with 3 ferrari's but in the end it was actually to apologise for a second of badly-judged driving on my part. People who just come on her to stir up things quite frankly bore me and blatantly are advertising the fact that they have small *******

Sorry, I do have some fun when the conditions are right, but as mentioned as long as the conditions are right, the road is safe and free of others and you are being grown-ups about it.

Sorry, just feeling a bit old and sensible since 2 days ago, a lady plowed through my pride and joy at almost 50

Cheers,

at the end of the day its down to the driver if you wanna race on a unsafe area and risk killing someone, you have to live with it. but at the same time we all pretty much have had a race or floored it at some point. I carnt imagine many scooby owners out there that have not floored it?

Personally i avoid races got nothing to prove but on a motorway or nice open road somtimes i have done and its a buzz! But anyway im a pretty carm driver considering i live near Southend on sea and get confronted with as someone early called it "halfords cars" driven by crazy boyracers doing 70 in 30mph zones.! MAD!

Of course we've all done it, and at the time we all think it's safe, and we're driving within our limits, so how come any of us have accidents, or is it ALWAYS the other cars fault, who left that diesle there, or I wish those blo*dy parents would lock their kids up.....

If, and when we decide to play, it doesn't mean it's SAFE, it just means that we're prepared to take a calculated risk. Some people calculate the risk better than others.

I also make a point of driving at 20mph in any built up area (pedestrians) itf funny when driving through villages to have q`s of traffic behind you wanting to go 40/50 and when the NS opens up and i blast away, how they soon disappear.

What is even more amusing is when the next 30 zone hits, the same stream of traffic will be back on my tail in a matter of moments, all wanting to drive everywhere at 40/50.

LOL i bet they drive into their own parking space at 40/50

Cool

Maybe we should all be wrapped up in cotton wool at birth and live in oxygen tents.

Maybe i should stay indoors under a door frame wearing rubber sandals when theres thunder and lightening about.

I think ill stay in my nuclear bunker, that way im sure not to come across any of the dangers life poses.

I'm with Catflap on the speed issue - stick to the limit in built up areas (which does seem to cause a tailback sometimes) then make the most of the national speedlimit stretches.

I thought that is how everyone drives, stick to the speed limit until National speed limit applies.

With a clear road ahead, drop down a cog (or two), nail the gas, and let her rip..

Driven like that for years.

btw what classifies as a middle age man etc....??
I think I may fit that discription. (apart from the undersexed bit)

Bravo to nutta and all who agree with him,if you want a comfortable, pretty family car full of gadgets you DONT buy a scoob, whats the point of spending all that money on the car, running costs and insurance, just to do slow drive bys?
I agree you dont misuse the speed, fools in built up areas cause more accidents than anything else, but if you use good judgement you can have fun in your motor.

I never race on the public highways, I just play with other road users.

If you were the P1 driver on the M56 last September that was chased down by 3 bikes, thanks for the fun. But it wasn't racing, no way, not ever, I was doing a plug chop officer.

A point in case, 6:00 am this morning northbound on the M1. I was in the outside lane doing a steady 85 over taking slower moving traffic when a new golf gti thingy came warp factor 9 up behind (with FOGS ON) and sat a few foot off me bumper. I kept it at 85 til the middle lane was free (which was for about a mile). Said golf gets even closer to my **** during this time.By now ive had enough of this idiot........

......then I moved to the central lane, didnt even bother to change gear and put my foot down, several hundred yards down the road he was nowhere. I went back in the outside lane overtaking more traffic (@85 now again) and then back to the middle lane. A bit later the golf driver goes past doing a ton plus, probably counting the days down til he swaps his bavarian trash for a scoob

There is no such thing as a safe place to race, not even a track.

Do you think Luciano Burti thought Spa was safe after his frightening accident last year? Or Schumacher at Silverstone? Or Hakkinen in Australia? Or any countless number of fatal accidents over the years that have happened at smaller meetings to less famous drivers...

It's how you assess the risk. I happen to agree with what Scoobynutta555 is saying, but who's to say that I might be frightened by his driving if I actually came across it? I can understand the viewpoint of those that think, or say, otherwise - that you should always drive "safely". But I fail to understand why they drive fast road cars. If you're keeping it for the track, why not have a "normal" road card and a track special? Why have such a fast road car? Just to sit in the knowledge that you could go faster than somebody else, if you wanted to? Then why mod your car so that it potentially even faster?
Scoobynutta555 didn't say that he raced every Halfords shed away from the lights - that was implied by others. If another Scoob, or Porsche, or other perceived-quality motor pulled alongside at the lights, with a nice clear road ahead, surely you'd be tempted?
And when I say a clear road, I mean the road is clear of traffic, there are no pedestrians, no junctions and I can see far further than my stopping distance.
And I have experienced some real trouser-fillers - on M27, a mattress fell off the roof of a car ahead, I was doing around a ton, couldn't change lane and just had to drive over it at barely unabated speed. It was the unexpected, and it can happen all the time.
You need to be constanbtly thinking to yourself - what if a stationary tractor is around that corner? Could I complete this overtaking manouevre if somebody was coming the other way driving at my normal speed?

I have fun acting like an unmarked police car and slowing people down.

Did it on the M1 before Christmas.
I was driving nice and slowly (75-80) on the inside lane when a black BMW 330 comes flying up the outside lane at a ton plus. So I accelerated and pulled out behind him. A quick flash of my front foglights (oops sorry officer my finger slipped) and he slows right down to 70 mph and pulls over to the inside lane. So I pulled in behind him and sat there for about a mile before overtaking him slowly. At which point he realised I was just a normal Evo and he headed off again at Warp 9.

At least I slowed him down for a bit.

I hate to add to this thread, but I have had some great little sprints with other Scoobies. All good harmless fun, with no-one going all out (in fact waiting at roundabouts etc).

I generally give it a bit of welly when I see other scoobs (or equals). I figure it's part of the fun of owning the thing.

I'm just surprised at how many "very slow" scoob drivers there are?

Do these people buy the cars because they like the looks?

Don't get me wrong. If you wanna take it easy when you're not on the track then fine. Each to his own. There just seem to be a lot of scooby turbos about being driven by people who would probably be as well of in a 1.6GL.
