Mass murderer - Life in prison or sympathy?
This French woman who smothered her last 8 newborns.
Looks like she will spend the rest of her life in prison.
So is this right or should she be recognised as a woman who had huge psychological problems dealing with pregnancy and child birth?
If she is now past child bearing age then presumably most of her mental problems will have gone so little point in sending her to a French Broadmoor.
What do you think?
My view is that she has to go to jail but for how long.

She clearly has problems and yes, as you say David she should pay for her crimes. The question I guess they are considering: Is she a risk to other people's babies and children?
If she is then she should be kept locked up until such time as she isn't.

1 you can get away with perhaps 2. how in the name of good **** do you kill 8 of your new born children. do they live in the dark ages? how did the husband not know. surely they have hospital records or were they all home births? i know she was a midwife, but what about the grandparents, friends, etc. surely they must have been suspicious after the first couple.
As for the husband saying he knew nothing about it, yeah right!!

I haven't been following the case but are they suggesting this could be along the lines of an extreme case of post-natal-depression?
I know it can hit some women really badly, when my daughter was born I did a bit of research about it and I know there were cases in the UK of women feeling like they wanted to kill their newborns, not sure if any ever actually did it though.
I suppose if it happened once it might be able to be put down to something like that, but eight times is unbelievable.

Certain ammount of sympathy, nobody sane does that, usually you want to kill them when they are in their teens f*cking the house up and giving backchat.
I think she should be a in a mental insitution really as she is clearly, mental, trouble is if she is out and about someone may try to kill her.

No sympathy ...
Mad or not killers should be in jail, end of IMHO. Makes me when killers get off cos they're only to see them get out scot free once "cured" eg.

I was wondering why you ask that. I can't believe that religion says its ok to kill your babies rather than use contraception to stop them in the first place? She would have to believe that to carry out such actions.
Its an awful case, if she has full mental facilities, she deserves whatever they hand out. What a terrible thing to do to those babies.

The all the more strange thing about it is the local people said they were a pleasant and friendly family who you would never think of being capable of anything like this. It is one of the most bizarre cases ever as you'd think to do such things the woman would have to be a complete nut job where as in fact this one was liked/well regarded with in the local community.
For me she deserves to rot in prison because to lead a 'normal' life having done such things shows absolutely no remorse for what she has done.

She was a very overweight woman and with flowing dresses would be able to conceal a pregnancy, even from her family, it seems.
I wonder why she kept the bodies? Must have been some kind of guilt?
