iphone OS4 question
Anyone running it on an iphone 3g and if so have you got it to run as well as when it was on OS3?
After lots of reports of OS4 killing the performance of the 3g the fix apparently is a factory reset of the iphone and restore.
However after this is done does it still seem slower than the previous OS? Also is it worth jailbreaking OS4 for the battery meter and multitasking?
I've decided to stick with my 3g and cancel my iphone 4 order when it arrives in store as my 3g just does all I need it to and can't justify £499 on the new one. Just wondering if I will regret updating it to the new OS?
Mods - i've posted in here as opposed to computer section as lots of iphone questions already in here and will get more answers.

iOS4 on the 3g is known to slow things down. There are various "fixes" but personally I'd stay on OS3 until Apple sort it out. They stated yesterday that they were looking to speed things up. Don't even think about multitasking, if it worked Apple would have enabled it.

General rule of thumb
1. If you have a 3G version and want to keep it , like the way it handles then dont install ios4. The pro's are outweighed by the cons
2. If you have a 3G version and just want some of the features of the ios4 but understand that it will/may slow it down and generally nark you off, then fill yer boots
3. If on the other hand you want all the features of ios4, then sell your 3G and get the iPhone4

After months of being fine on OS4, my 3g over the last 2 days has become sluggish and unresponsive.
I wish apple would give users the option of downgrading OS's.

Installed OS4 on my 3G two weeks ago...and have not been able to access my wifi network since....
comes up connected... big tick next to my network...even has the semi circle signal icons at the top... but when I click safari, all I get is no internet connection.
The only way I can surf the net is by disabling wiFi and use 3G, which is slow but at least it works...eventually!
The Mrs loves it, her 3GS still connects fine and is on OS3.something still so I know it's not the network router (even though I've still re-set it, and restarted it a number of times through man logic)
I've also tried the "phone in freezer" trick, to try and boot the network card into life...still no avail..

I fixed my os4 issues as posted in computer related by:
Backup
Full delete from phone
Upgrade to os4.0.1
Full restore
It was, after that, as good as I remember it pre upgrade.
However, the benefit the upgrades bring are not worthe the hassle on a 3G

Cheers DD. I think i'll leave mine on 3.1.2. I've bought my eldest a 3g off ebay for his 13th Birthday as he is now not having mine (it's the only thing he wanted) and is coming with OS4 already on it so will have a play with it before he gets it to see what it's like.

There is no way to roll back to OS3 though is there not even from those clever jailbreaking fellows?
Edit: seems I was wrong, found instructions on how to do it so at least can sort my Son's one if OS4 is killing it.

I am running it on a 3G and it is ok. However it is not used for more than app testing so it isn't a real world gauge of how ios4 is on a 3G
I beloved apple is lookin into the poor performance of 4 on the 3g and it is expected that ios4.1 will help things. It is currently in beta so will appear within a couple of months, I would guess September
