Thumbs down Iraq - The most compelling evidence so far?

Pretty damning evidence IMHO from someone who knew what they were talking about with no hidden political agenda.

Agreed but I think it is good that a man of Blix's knowledge and authority stands up and says so.

PS. And there is Blair, the chap who took us to war, being paid loads as a peacemaker. A bit ironic.

And aren't we paying for his security?

it is good that a man in his position is prepared to speak up and tell us the truth which as Chip says we all knew in our hearts anyway.

I hope Dr Blix pays good attention to his personal security!

My view has always been that Blair, albeit in good faith, totally misjudged the situation. He was overawed by the might of the USA and by rubbing shoulders with Bush and may be even thought that he would go down in history as he had his own "Falklands" moment as achieved by the woman he secretly admired, Margaret Thatcher.

I think you could be largely right at that. I think there is a bit more to it as well though. He must have realised all the attendant dangers of that action, but he did once say that he got a personal thrill about sending soldiers to war, he knew well enough that the action was illegal, he kept on trying to manufacture excuses, and was quick to say that he did not regret ending Sadam's rule when it became obvious there were no WMD's around, even though he well knew that it is illegal to deliberately perform a regime change on another country. He was prepared to ignore all that, and also to make this country a terrorist target for his own personal ambitions and the reasons you quoted above. I don't believe that it was in good faith however.

Can't argue with that! Especially when the first thing they repaired at the end of the war was the oil wells.
