Is it the wrong time to buy a tent
I was in Halfords today and saw the following tent. I personally thought it was not bad value for a starter tent. My question is would i get any time to use it this year or are we coming out of the camping season. It would only be the 2 of us and a small dog. Are the nights starting to get to dark to early now.
Any advice would be great.

Depends on just how nesh you are, if you don't mind a bit of rain and have a decent sleeping bag to keep warm you can get a few weekends in this year, and obviously beer helps keep you warm
We are camping in the New Forest at the end of August

We've got one of those and its great and theres loads of cheap camp sites out there even at this time of year.Go for it you'll love it.Make sure you have a go at putting the tent up before you go don't do what we did and sit in the middle of a field in Wales trying to figure it out!

The price of tents is amazing IMHO. OK, so they are not going to survive Force 6 in the Highlands in the middle of winter but for your average summer jaunt or festival, then cheap as chips!
I went to Glastonbury with my £100 2 berth/4 person Halfords tent (complete with 2 double blow up mattresses & 4 sleeping bags for £100 2 years ago) and it was ideal. Just across the way were 2 girls/1 bloke and they bought on Tues PM a 3 person tent from Asda for £75, "did" the festival, then gave it away to my m8 on the sunday morning! He left it as he cba to take it down... Throwaway camping!

i live a 15 min walk from hylands which hosts the vfestival and they're are usaully fields worth of tents left by people as it easier and cheaper to leave it and buy a new one next year. Just leave it to the organisers/council to clean up

I have a very similar 4 man/2 room tent. Which I bought for £50, its done 6 camping trips so far, survived a few welsh thunderstorms and all I've done is sponge off the mud and spray some waterproof treatment on it (just incase ).
I think it may have another few trips left in it, but the zips are getting a bit ropey (broke the tags on two zips from it jamming).
Next time I'm tempted to get a ultra compact lightweight tent, maybe 1 or 2 man with some good storage space. As one annoying thing with larger tents is teh time to pitch and how much boot space it takes up...My mate's Outwell goes into what looks like a bodybag...then there is a serparte bag for the poles, mind, its probably bigger than some caravans
One thing I insist on taking is my electric cool bag (and a 12v battery if I don't have any power); with the ice packs it keeps meat at safe temperature for a long weekend, not to mention cool beer - for the perfect BBQ

MY Kyham biker is great, survived Wales and countless archery trips. For a weekend its fine (2 man) but for a week it needs to be bigger. I can obnly sit up in mine, for a prolonged period you need bigger.
A week in Wales taught me that, but as I rarely camp for more than 2 days at a time its fine. If I do another week or so, then I'll get a bigger one.

We're off (we being me, Mrs zip and the 2 little zips) to Camp Bestival on Friday for the weekend.
I've paid for a tent already up with blow up beds already in it.
I can't be arsed with all that putting up and taking down malarky when it's the family's first time camping ...
I hope it doesn't rain....my God I hope it doesn't rain.... she'll never forgive my 'great' idea....

For that sort of money the tent probably would only last a few seasons and the sleeping bags will be fine in the warmer weather we're having now but not so good when it gets cooler.
I've been away camping early March and as late as the end of October. It's great if you have the right kit, decent sleeping bag being the most important thing. The evenings are still nice and long now and a few logs on the BBQ after you've cooked your tea will keep things cosy into the wee hours (especially whilst combined with a few beers). Even when they're not so long just make sure the camp site isn't too far from a nice pub. Also cars have comfy seats, lighting, radios, and soon warm up when you're in it. Ideal place to chill until bed time
Do it, you will not regret it

Has it got a 'built in groundsheet'?
..or one you have to peg out?
One stays a lot dryer, warmer, and bug (or amphibian) free than the other.

Love the farm, Leave no trace!!!
This year the Festival asked everyone to 'Leave No Trace' and 'Take it Home'. But I kid you not, last year the following items were abandoned on site:
9,500 roll mats
6,500 sleeping bags
5,500 tents
3,500 airbeds
2,200 chairs
400 gazebos

1 night in a hotel will get me a week on a camp site (UK and Europe) with electricity (for hair straighteners, laptops, chargers) and showers. We've a fully sealed tent, so very few bugs, 2 sealed bedrooms, a canopy, carpet!
If you can camp in the wet (I've also woke up to a frosty tent ), and keep dry you've sussed it! Goretex trainers and coats help
I only started looking at camping about 5 years ago, and really enjoy it. I reckon the equipment may have cost me £600 (tent, sleeping bags, hobs, gas, canopy, carpet) but I reckon this tent has been used for for around 6 or 7 weeks including 10 days on the shore Lake Brienz for about £120! You probably couldn't buy a meal for 3 for that around there!

Jamie, it has 2 massive rooms either side of a big central area.
I am 6 foot 3 so wanted a tent that I could stand up in.
Not sure it's 8 man though, or it would be a bit "village people" if it was
