I've mixed feelings on this. On one hand it's a blatant disregard for the rules and the result shouldn't stand. But on the other hand, is it any different from McLaren telling Button/Hamilton to turn revs down to "conserve fuel" (reading between the lines Button don't try and overtake Hamilton) in an earlier race. As it turned out Button had a crack and it was awesome viewing for 30 secs before they were pretty much ordered not to race each other.

That race they were both told to turn down revs to conserve fuel, we saw Hamilton spring in to life when Button did try to over take him and he easily pulled away, and maybe they were actually both low on fuel, either way its a bit different to the deliberate swap that Ferrari did.

it's one thing to tell your drivers to "calm down..bag the points for the team" Chris... but another to tell your leading driver to pull over, have a cuppa and let the slower driver bag the win because he's had a better start to the season than you.
The Lewis/Button incident was sorted on the track... Lewis re-took the lead before the team told them to behave... so the true result was already restored before the team stepped in.

What is the point in enforcing a rule with a fine? Surely the penalty should fit the crime, if they were to both drop 5 places no team would be seen to be so deliberate again, if its a fine well if you have the money as Ferrari do then why not.
Are they scared of baby Alonso throwing toys again and crying on TV and bringing embarrassment to the sport?

1 year on from his accident as well. Would have been a great victory for him.
Ferrari should have told Alonso he had to pass.
Schumacher took a 12 second penalty for overtaking Alonso at the Monaco grand prix and I think most of you would admit the rules were unclear in this area. Yet Ferrari have no such time penaly for a much worse abuse of the rules if you ask me.
And they say its a team game! They would have had the same number of points if Massa won.

Ferrari really aren't doing themselves any favors outside of Italy and Spain. Its a shame because I really like their cars but they are putting me right off them as a brand...well since Alonso moved their actually and while I can see their reasoning for wanting him (to help them win the championship) I am wondering at what cost to the name of Ferrari.

Not much point having rules in sport if noones is going to stick to them.Same with Suzuki in MotoGP they've pretty much used up their 6 engine allowance for the season so they went cap in hand to the FIM to ask to be able to use more and lo and behold they said yes!

why cant team decide which driver is gonna overtake another, its the same as deciding who takes a penalty cos they have a higher goal tally that season!

If they disagree with the rule, then they along with other teams can petition to get it changed.
Personally, I like the rule. I want to watch people race, I do not want to watch team orders decide races. If Masa had not moved over then Alonso would have been forced to try and take him on the track, which could have been dramatic.
Also, with those two battling between each other, it may have allowed Webber to close up and have yet more excitement to watch.
I really do not want to see a return to the old days where teams had a number 1 driver, and a number 2. The number 1 shooting off into the distance, while number just made life awkward for everyone else, holding them up, or even worse knocking them off just "for the team".

I seem to remember Hamilton being penalised earlier in the season much more harshly for something similar but far less farcical. Can anyone remember what it was for exactly? I think it was something like passing someone during a safety car after being told on the radio it would be ok.

Will have Ferrari quaking in their boots!
It's like fining me 0.0001p & I'm p*ss poor.
It stopped the 2 front runners having a proper dust-up & who knows If would have helped 3rd place catch them..............I am just glad I am not one of the poor s*ds who payed hard earned to watch that farce.

Surely this is should be treated exactly the same as match fixing???

"Lewis Hamilton was disqualified from his third-place finish in the Australian GP for giving false statements to race stewards regarding a pass under safety car conditions."
See post #1.
Seems like Lying = DQ (If you're Not Ferrari)
Breaking the rules = Pocket change fine (If you are Ferrari)
