The fact Ferrari got fined anything more than a toasted cheese sandwich is a step in the right direction if you ask me.
As for Massa, it's amazing what a pay cheque can make you say lol

If teams want to break the rule and tell drivers what to do why don't they just slip in a code word into an ordinary message??

In a way that's what they did. He wasn't directly told to let him pass only that Alonso was quicker, code for move over....

Cheating wop *******. Both should of been excluded. With Mosley out of the picture I thought the Ferrari International Assistance would not be rearing it's ugly head again. But only a $100K fine? wtf is that suppose to do? Absolutely nothing.

It is bad PR unless done with a bit of face saving acting.
However, it is a team "sport" and at the end of the day, if they want to help each other out, or decide which one is going to win/come second - it is up to them.
Would anyone really have a problem if they did this in the last race of the season in order for the driver coming second to win the world championship?
If you accept that this is OK (and it always has been the case), then it is just the thin end of the wedge that allows what happened yesterday. It would just look a lot better if the drivers yielding the win were not huffy Brazilian types with poor acting skills.
I believe it has not been unknown for this to happen between different teams eg when J Villeneuve won the Championship and the Williams/McLaren team management got very "matey" at the last race of the season.
Mind you, those two teams are British.

So no calls of bringing the sport into distribute then ?
Amazes me how trouble / controversy seems to follow Alonso about (even though he is keeping quite on this one)

The point is, they deliberately broke the rule about team orders in order to get more points for Alonso. Because he is a selfish creep he was happy to accept the win as though he deserved it. Massa was in an impossible position of course since he was effectively forced to do what they said. It meant that he lost the win that he had earned and richly deserved and the spectators were cheated of what could have been an epic battle for the lead.

Rules should be obeyed and Ferrari should have both cars disqualified for their cynical behaviour. Whether the rule is valid or not is neither here nor there, it is up to the teams to get it changed if that is what they want, but not to ignore it.

$100,000 fine - paid out from the petty cash tin i bet!

My understanding is that they broke a rule using a technicality, common sense should prevail and Ferrari disqualified from the race. this would make anyone else think twice about doing this.

I was really starting to enjoy F1 again, now i think I'll give it a miss if this is how it is going to be. Shame!

What i don`t understand is why didn`t ferrari just tell Massa that he had a technical problem and he needed to ease off, that would have been far better than making it obvious.

Drop them both 5 or maybe 10 places on the grid at the "no-overtaking" Hungaroring next weekend: that would most likely mean minimal Ferrari points at the next event and that both Red Bull and McLaren would pull out a greater lead in the championship and severely damage any hopes that Alonso had of winning the title out of the dustbin.

As for the $100k fine. That's probably about the cost of a spare gearbox.

I find it amusing the sniveling spaniard STILL cannot win a race on his own merits LOL

"Alonso is faster" lmao... erm no he isn't..if he was he'd have passed you by now... feel really sorry for Massa... but that's what you get for racing for Ferrari.. as soon as you're labeled as their number 2..you're done for.

As for the $100k fine... they might as well have made it $1 and told all the teams it's fine to fix the drivers championship results from race one.

Ferrari had a one two, maximum points, that's where their involvement in the drivers championships ended imho..

They should have told Massa what Red Bull tell Webber and told him he needs to switch to 'fuel saving mode G8'....

They didn't though did they... Massa was ordered to let Alonso past... there was no "helping each other out" going on there......

Why exclude them - exactly what did they do wrong?

If Fernado Allar$ehole was 'faster' as claimed on the pit 2 car radio then Massa would have maintained speed and continued to race right up until the line and not had to slow down to let Allar$ehole pass - is this not the definition if indeed the spirit of racing?

Les,

Agreed it's against the rules and they should be penalised, but the fact remains that in terms of the championship it was the sensible thing to do.

They just made an absolute hash of it as a team.

At the end of the day it made no difference to anyone elses race.

All this "it deprived us of a thrilling finish" nonsense is naive. They would have been told to hold station just like all the other teams do to avoid an incident which would have been massively costly in terms of points. Very, very rarely have team mates been allowed to race each other in the closing stages of a GP. And those that have have done so in direct contradiction of the teams wishes.

All it deprived us of was two red cars finishing in tandom but with massa in front.

What would have been a fairer penalty might have been to award massa the points for first and alonso the points for second.

Effectively undoing the change.

Lets see if another team does the same later in the season... probably result in a $1 million fine, disqualification from that race and a 10 position grid penalty at the next GP...

(call me cynical)

Are you Stefano Domenicali?

The whole team knowingly broke the rules. Alonso was getting bolshy at not being able to pass Massa fair and square and helped influence the Team Management to issue team orders ("This is ridiculous"), the race engineer passed on those team orders ("Alonso is faster than you etc."). Massa meekly agreed to the team orders and slowed to let Alonso past. There was clearly nothing wrong with Massa's car or else Vettel would have passed him too.

All 3 Parties knew they were in the wrong and should be punished accordingly. A fine does not effect either driver one jot.
