Default To those that advised me to buy a Worcestor Bosch..

Not sure if anybody remembers but I had a nightmare with my boiler when it broke down during the heavy snow last Xmas.

It needed replacing and a few people on here recommended a WB which I bought. Anyway, the other day it started making a funny noise so I called them up and they came to fix it 2 hours later

Fantastic service

When I read the thread title I though oh s**t, that'll be me.

But, as you now know, you can't knock their customer service.

My Ariston has been in for 10 years, serviced for last 5 without issue left to its own devices for the first 5 without issue. Even got a free cordless drill when I bought it which still works...........

Ali, you were particularly helpful when I was having such a bad time back then. I haven't forgotten.

To edit it you need to go into 'go advanced' and do it in there, gives more options (advanced) than ust edit mode. I find that even if i alter the title the changes do not appear - at least to me - something to do with clearing cache or cookies i believe.

We have a Vaillant, but when it breaks again it will be coming out. Every time it needs a part it's £100+, plus fitting. My tame plumber supplies a cheap'ncheerful one where pretty much everything is £20, so as long as it doesn't break down 5x more we'll be saving money. The Vaillant has hardly been reliable though, with 4 major components known to go in sequence annually. If you're lucky you get 1-2 years off after the fourth is replaced before the process starts again.

We have had a Worcester combi for some 18 years now. It has always been 100% reliable and I certainly don't regret buying it even if it was more expensive than the others available at the time.

If I was on the original thread I would have mentioned the excellent service Worcester provide. IMO its not worth taking out the yearly cover, just call them when it breaks down. Thats what I did and it broke down once in 7 years (year 5) They replaced the ECU, heat exchanger, a seal and the fan for approx £230 IIRC. Came next day because it was a priority - combi during winter and there were children living at the property.

Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. I'm not usually one for insurances etc, but after the nightmare I had with the last boiler when it was minus 5 last year and I had no hot water or heating and waited 2-3days for muppets from BG and N power to come around and then not be able to fix it I thought I might go for the extended cover this time.

I won't bore you with the details but if you remember last December when there was heavy snow and freezing temps? I had no heating or hot water for 2 weeks, in an old draughty house. One of the worst experiences of my life
