I paid 50p to wave goodbye to a team at Hampden park whom Ally McLeod had hyped up to such an extent that all of Scotland thought we just had to turn up in Argentina and the world cup would be ours
We've learned our lessons since then and we know we are ****e
You guys (and your media) just have to do the same and you'll probably end up enjoying the games a bit more

You clearly don't remember Argentina 1978 then....

Now now.... It important that Scotland have a football team, Its the only 11 people in the country with jobs*
* I just said this to Mrs Winner who is born and raised in the east end of Glasgow, she actually, with a look of determination on her face, squeezed my ***** so hard I almost passed out...... So NO Scottish rudeness, I have had my punishment for that comment.

However, maybe you owe Mrs Winner a slight apology (after you have a look at good old GB's employment stats)

Anyone see the LA Times appraisal of the England team?
The sad truth of the matter is that England's players, with few exceptions, are an arrogant, ignorant and unpleasant lot. They are paid far too much by their Premier League clubs, where their true allegiance lies, and their ability individually and collectively in an England shirt does not match their swagger.
It is not too much to say that the worthless and nationalistic English tabloids are reflected in the English team. It's all about drinking, drugs, womanizing, gambling, fast cars and slow minds. Little England written large.

Ignoring the trolling **** who ate the cat above
Just to ckarify that the magazine article wasn't posted due to any anti-English sentiment (you may notice from other threads but I and many other Scots chose to support our sole British interest in this world cup).
It was posted because IMHO it was a balanced and spot on account of what happens every time England qualify for a major tournament.

I think a lot of it is the media. I never expected us to win just give it a go and get as far as we go. My boss is German and came in with his german top on yesterday. He was somewhat suprised at how I wasnt that upset. Yes you moan after the match but get on and enjoy the remaining games I say.

no "dignity at work" or "equal ops" policy in your place then? No sports top of any kind in our place. Football, rugby, gaelic tops are all banned
Come into work tomorrow wearing a brown sheepskin fly jacket, flying googles and humming "Dam Busters" theme. That should sicken him.

My team has people from italy, france, germany, ghana, ethiopia to name but a few and the wider dept is renowned for having a laugh and decent banter. No ones batted an eyelid with all the massive flags hanging from desks etc.
Wearing your national teams top is one thing, referring back to WW's is another and probably the reason why other workplaces would frown on such things.

The difference as much as anything is not so much that they lost the match to a better side, but the way in which they did so.
Their performance was so poor with no spark at all or any real attempt to actually win the match that it was embarrassing to watch and upsetting to think that was the best that our country could produce!
