Default Breakdown Cover ?

Have been with the AA for ten years, its just getting very expensive, 22.76 a month, they have been good so reluctant to change but thats just taking the p1ss, its for me and the wife and the full package, not paying £273 for the year, i barely go anywhere so after alternatives that are a bit cheaper (like half !).

How do Green Flag and the RAC compare ?

have you tried doing an on-line quote from the AA rather than just accepting the renewal? I do that every year and they agree to match the quote as if you're a new customer.

I was with the AA for years and years, The ONE time I called on them I was so disappointed, Not with the AA man himself, he was really helpful but with the call centre staff.
Anyways much like you I dont really drive much, maybe 3k a year so I just needed basic breakdown and get you home cover.
I went with the RAC, for me and the Mrs its about £90 a year, we get roadside, recovery and the take you to a hotel thingy if your miles away from home.

Not had to use them yet but the call centre seemed a bit more switched on.

I work for a recovery contractor and would recommend you to go with either Greenflag, or Britannia rescue. Both the AA and RAC are way over priced and under equipped

I had a couple of bad experiences with the RAC, i'd avoid them at all costs... went with the aa and have never looked back. I'm sure it cost me alot less than £273

There are bad eggs in every trade, not all are the same.

Read this: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/dea...down-discounts

Funnily enough I'm in the same boat as my AA renewal has just come through. For the above seems like you can get RAC membership for 1/4 the price if you have a pile of Tesco Clubcard vouchers, which luckily I have

Does seem pretty expensive for something I've used twice that I can remember in the time I've been with them.

Been with German outfit ADAC for past couple of years. Living here you have to join as a plusmember but then and its only 79.50euros for full European cover It's silly money, less than 100 euros to include your partner. Believe ADAC are the biggest European operator and are also the official recovery firm at the Ring which is perhaps useful if you plan a trip.
Only called them out the once - ok you ring a number in Germany but they have English speakers on line. We were in southern Ireland and a local garage turned out within an hour; believe they send AA out here?
They produce a great looking magazine but sadly its in German
Worth a look I'd have thought? They have an English language website. Try www.adac.de

Im with the AA and have been for years. I renewed last month. I had a quote for my lady and I, for around £160. Rang them up, complained I hadnt used them and wasnt sure I wanted to stay now. Within 30 secs my quote got dropped to £100, which I accepted.

Just ring up and complain.

I learned the hard way that a trip home on the back of a flatbed lorry is a very pricey business!

Have you considered taking an Additions Plus account with Barclays Bank? Will cost you roughly £15.00 a month but also gives you the top of the range RAC package plus a host of extras such as mobile phone insurance and many more... :-)
I have found it in-valuable.
