Respray of my 1977 Bob Jackson Bike Frame :)
I'm going to resurect my Bob Jackson.......... last rode in anger as a teenager in 1978 Pics below LOL
30 odd years ago Bob jackson did an outstanding job with respray / chrome and I was thinking of sending the frame back to them for a respray before I started to rebuild it.
I really fancy a white bike......in my day it was white, whats the pearlescent jobby
After 30 years are they still any good ??
any good sites to buy 30 year old Campag spares
Cheers

Ok, assuming it's what you want, why not? Either get it sprayed and detail it yourself, or do the whole job yourself. My eldest sprayed a Leeson trials frame with Hammerite white, lovely job, resisits the knocks like owt and still looks good.
There IS retro Campag stuff on e-bay, I had a look last night. Even a 70's pair of Simplex Prestige Criterium shifters in perfect nick. (I mention Simplex as the best rear mech I ever had was a Prestige criterium, made of delrin and alloy, TOTALLY strippable with small bolts and circlips, and the jockey wheels ran on adjustable ball bearing races.)

It's really a nostalgia thing I would probably get my gut stuck on the bars LOL.
I really wanted bits of the frame chromed so I think it's really an away job, I've looked on the net and Bob Jackson still appear to do a pretty good job so it's away to Leeds then
Most of the stuff in the garage is campag or shimano dura-ace which hopeully I can dismantle and try and refurbish. The frame looks in pretty good nick (as does my old road frame) but I think I might go for some new wheels, don't fancy riding around on 35 year old alloy LOL
I'll trawl e-bay for any bits that I can't put together.
Cheers

My uncle had his Sun bike from when he was 13 in the fifties, its on its second refit, basically he sent it in, bought a modern road bike and shifted all the kit over, looks ace in ligth blue with black rims.
I love the idea of re-using old bikes with sentimeantal value, especially if it was a quality item, like anything like that, they do end up worth quite decent money, who thought basket case Mk1 Escorts would be worth thousands back in the early eighties when we were crashing and scrapping them ?

My lad's Leeson was refurbed but not sprayed, by Leeson himself, so yes, that's a good idea. It got new mounts for the rear wheel which are bolt through?
Anyway, new wheels, yes, I would go for that.
As for refurbing Shimano/Campag stuff, strip off all you can, like screws, springs, cable fasteners etc, then dunk the bits in Wickes Paintbrush cleaner, the blue stuff, leave for a half hour, making sure every part is wet, and then fettle it with an old, stiff paintbrush, I use a 1" one.
Finally rinse in VERY hot water, boiling if you can, shake and leave to dry, before re-oiling.
I've even done the same with Shimano blocks, (the cogs and sprockets), running the cleaner through the back where the pawls and springs are, before spinning it while pouring boiling water through. You should SEE the crap sluicing out of them. Finally re-oil with spray grease etc. Makes a lovely job, very satisfying

Re, Respray of Bob Jackson Classic
Hi there, If I can be any help with the respray of your Bob Jackson, please get in touch. I own a company which specialises in re enammeling of classic lightweight racing frames. I own a Bob Jackson Messina from 1970 and still time trial it. It has been resprayed with an industrial 2 pack enamel and I can let you see some pictures if required. I have access to all the correct Decals, including the Reynolds stickers for frame and forks. A frame of this build quality would cost in access of £400.00 today. If this frame still fits you, why change it ? It's all you need.
Regards, Terry.

I have a bob jackson bike too. done many thousand's of miles on it, including the lands end/joh o groats.
been laid up for about 7 yrs now, the front forks snapped in the headset tube ! that was a moment and a half.
can;t bare to part with it. do keep thinking I'll have to repair that.
technology is better- but still be nice for a winter hack.
