02 and the unlimited cap ?

02 and the unlimited cap ?
I am, like many countless iphone users, quite heavy on the data useage but not excessive. That is until you reset your stats and then use the phone in your normal manner and then after a while see just exactly how much you have used.
Quite alarming really !!
I dont count myself as an 'excessive user' (certainly not in the 3% who abuse it) but here is an example.
reset it at 11:50 am.
Downloaded a small world cup app from the app store
Checked my three email accounts, replied to two messages and created one new email. No attachments
probably about 3 lines of text
Browsed the daily telegraph tech website using their app, viewed a few articles
Now in the space of 20 minutes of light use, I have consumed ............14.2MB !!!!!!!
Now my maths is rubbish but tell me if I am wrong but over the course of 30 days, surely I will be way over the 500MB allowance with my typical use. So surely there must be millions of people like me who are going to be caught out by this cap ??
* Please note, no **** downloading was included in this trial

It was on the books, now Orange/Tmob and Vodafone have followed suit, not sure about 3 though I have a feeling they will be doing the same shortly.
O2 do a 1GB tarrif, may be worth you going to that or abusing the wifi a little more?

I was under the impression that iPhones were for some reason quite heavy data users based on the richness of their content (probably got that wrong lol)
But that does certainly seem that it would be quite easy to go way over your allowance.
I know the USA have recently changed all their data allowances too due to demand starting to outstrip supply of data transfer.

Jesus Swiss that's a lot in 20 minutes. Surely it can't be right?? I've had my
iPhone a week now and I check my e-mail everyday and surf a load of sites
daily, 99% of the time when I'm at home and connect via my home hub. (1
e-mail account). I've only used 5.4MB (If I'm looking in the right place that is).
And thinking about it I think I've used my iPhone in the week I've had it more
than my laptop, even used it while having a nice long 20 minute crap And
yes I've been on **** sites and watched a few videos.
Disclaimer: I only went to look at **** just to check that my iPhone played videos

I'm on mine all the time, I've been sending lots of emails with photos in recently and also downloading a fair few too. Also check emails 3-4 times a day. I've had the phone for about 3 months I think and I've recieved 564mb and sent 74mb in that time. I do have all roaming turned off though so it's not always trying to update all the time. Yours does seem very high though.

In the last 5 days I have sent: 103mb...received 1.1gb!!!!! Who would have thought that **** files were that big!
By fortune I am with 3 and so far it does'nt matter, however if they cap use I will be screwed.

This is the point though. Data useage can vary widely and since we are all used to unlimited data, I doubt most of us actually pay attention to your useage on your smartphones, let alone iPhones with their damn useful browsers
The app I downloaded was about 1MB in size, no more than 3MB. So that means based on my calculations that there could be some serious 'going over' the limit for some people.
just checked it again now and as it is 2 hours since I reset the useage, it stands at 1MB sent, 19.5 received.
So not a major jump but that was light use!!
Lets say on average 35MB a day x 30 that is 1.05GB
Surely I am not classed as a heavy user because that must be what an average person does ???

But My point is, how can checking your email (even with push notifications off ) 8-9 times a day, replying to a few emails, a bit of browsing (say 10 minutes ) and a bit of app using be classed as above avearge when I should imagine millions of users do the same if not more ?

What happens when you hit your limit? Is it a real cap i.e. no more downloads until next calendar month, or are they going to sting you for every Mb? (Any idea how much?)

looks like the classic drug pusher ploy of giving something away "free" --- getting people hooked, then charging top whack

269mb sent and 1.5gb in just under 2 years since the 3g came out. I'm always on mine so must be mostly wifi usage.
500mb should be fine and would assume it's been done to stop unauthorised tethering usage.
I'm staying with my current deal so keeping unlimited data.

Surely all the networks need to do is give 30-60 days notice to change the T&C's of the existing contracts "fair usage policy" to apply the same limits to those too. Would they really just allow older tariff users to keep slipping under the radar.
I dont use anything like some of the numbers mentioned on here. Monthly usage (network not WiFi) is about 115mb

My iPhone is on T-Mobile and they dont charge for run on over your data package (its in their T&Cs) - I think my unlimited data is a £4.20 bolt on per month on a voice tariff.
They are now also an official iPhone4 partner so maybe worth a look
