Default 1 for the ex smokers

How did you prevent yourself ripping heads off?

I stopped this morning, and already I've already got a rather stearn warning from the boss. Wouldn't be so bad, but that was by 9:30!

I gave up at the start of this year after just getting the hump with spending the cash on it, I had tried to give up several times before and failed as I felt I was denying myself something the key is to KNOW your NEVER going to smoke again as your done with it and you not giving anything up your actually releasing yourself from an addiction

If you can work on that mindset it's genuinly easy because your not denying yourself your getting free of the crap so you don’t really get the mood swings
Just the pangs but dealing with them is easy as your NEVER smoking again so there irrevelant

This worked for me, I was a serious smoker and I didn’t do any patch's or remedys I just threw half a pack in the bin one day as I was sick of spending the cash on them
It’s really all in your mindset

If you havent read it GET ALLEN CARRS book it wont tell you anything you don’t know, it's not magic but it does work in changing your mindset, bet money you will ever spend

Good luck

hope you do it, it's the best thing I ever done, seriously

I gave up New Year's Day 15 years ago - best thing I ever did. No patches, no placebos, just a desire and a want to do so.

The first couple of days were hard as the body craves the nicotine but the only extra thing I did over willpower was to briefly look at Alan Carr's book and about the only paragraph I read said "As soon as you have stopped smoking, you are a non-smoker". To me that really clicked in my head -Q "Are you a smoker, James?" A "No, I am a non-smoker".

I've never felt the desire to go back and am now, for my age, very fit and healthy and love being so.

Good luck and stick with it

After that it was easy

Didn't miss the nicotine this morning, or felt like I didn't. But apparently turned in to grumpy miserable ******...

Got told to go and have a smoke mid morning, so going to try again this afternoon.

Read the Allen Carr book, already mentioned.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Allen-Carrs-...6081258&sr=8-1

It worked for me 5 years ago after numerous attempts, both cold turkey and with patches.

You have to really want to stop too. The worst thing is to stop when you don't want to but because someone else thinks you should stop!

just to add ... You need to want to give up !! thats half the battle.

Be prepared for the 3, 6, 12 and 24 month kick !!! its something else

I hate being around smokers now, but every now and then i still get a slight urge for a ciggy.

I also gave up alcohol 6 yrs ago, so im a real laugh to be around

Not for everyone but I quit using Champix. Maybe its just the 'placebo' effect of taking pills but I thought they were excellent and nothing else had worked for me.

I have tried all the patches/inhalers etc but the pills were the only thing that worked.

I did have some fcuked up dreams though................

What methods work best for you will depend on what type of personality you have, everybody is different. Ive tried quitting several times and not suceeded, I think I was quitting for other people though not really for myself and the feeling of deprevation is whats got me every time.
Ive heard Champix is very good, Im going to give this a go when Im next ready to quit or go to one of Allan Carrs quit smoking sessions/read the book.

Good luck, hope you manage to do it

Well done for trying to give up

I gave up over 10 years ago now, said I'd do it on my 25th birthday and did so.

But because I knew the date was coming, about 3 months before went from 15-20 a day B&H to 15-20 Silk Cut, then next month went down to 8 Silk cut a day, the next month 4 silk cut a day, then stopped the month after. However for the next year I'd have one of those cigarellos in the 19th hole at the golf club twice a week, and still have the odd cigar at special occaisions.

Worked for me!

Nearly 3 years for me (30 a day).

I told my son, which was a big step for me, I didn't want to let him down.

Get patches, and go to your doctor for them, I got 6 weeks worth for one subscription cost.

Change your routine, day 1 was a Saturday, I wasn't doing well and had to occupy myself, the next 2 weeks I was abroad on holiday.
- No get up, get coffee, get in car, have a ***
- No, get to work, get stressed, have a ***
- No, breaktime, go out with the faggers, have a ***

Break the routine, you want one, but you don't need one, you're just bored and assume it's *** time.

I smoked for 22 years, 22 fvcking years of fvcking my body up and wasting thousands of pounds.

Tell yourself you are going to do it, WANT to do it, set a date and go for it.

Best (and bravest) thing I ever did, good luck to you and I wish you well.

as baove the change of routine thing is the key also

when I gave up as my previous post my last *** was outside heathrow just before going to Goa for a month

my other half thought I was mad to pack up while going on holiday as she was scared I'd be a moody nightmare

but my reasoning was change of routine - so no automatic ****, the got in car in the morning *** and after dinner *** etc etc

was having fun, always up to somthing - no bored ****

as above I had given up full stop in my mind - so no thinking what i was missing out on

anyway worked for me hope anyone reading this and thinking about it is succesful it's worth it

I quit in January this year using Champix. I agree with the above that you have to want to give up. I had tried before, but failed for various reasons/excuses. My other half is still smoking at the moment, but even with cigs in the house, I haven't been tempted.

I won't say it's been easy, but the attitude of I don't smoke does help. You can't be that serious about quitting if someone has told you to have a cig and you did. The first few days are the hardest. It does get easier, but you will be tempted and you need to have willpower!

I have given up for 9 months now and ate everything in sight! I have sort of stopped that now.

I did consider starting smoking again as i couldnt stop eating but its ok now, almost back to normal

I have used patches and still do.

A friend of mine has given up and all she is doing is eating. She's put on half a stone in month or so.

Personally, I enjoy the odd cigge. I smoke maybe two or three a day and if I don't have one for a day or two its no big deal. If I don't go out a packet of 20 can last a couple of weeks.

I used losenges for the first two months. Got enough to help a hippo give up on the NHS and used less than 10% of them!

I think I could have done it without them as the desire to be a non-smoker due to smelling, being skint, being unfit, not wanting to have to explain to my daughters why I kept going outside in the rain and the straw that broke the camel's back ....

Dreading cleaning my teeth each morning due to it bringing on a coughing fit which every day made me spew!!

Want it, do it! Good luck.

It took a very long time and a stay in hospital for another reason to enable me to give up. I had tried a few time before and failed every time.

I cornered the market in Maltesers, did not have any patches, and stuck with it. You will be encouraged to know that every day you remain free of the ciggies, the stronger your will to keep off them becomes. I was very heavily hooked on tobacco so I know that you can crack it. You won't believe the relief when you know you have got it beaten. And the cash you will save is truly amazing.

exercise more
increase vitamin c intake
take more than one bath a day- and relax in it
take Valerian + Passiflora, both herbal anxiety remedies (taste terrible, but worth it)
.
.
.
.
and finally, look at pictures daily of a smokers lungs in comparison to a non-smokers!
its never too late, after 5 years you can Nearly return your lungs to that of a non smoker.
