Default Any double glazing experts?

The windows in my new house were a bit dirty, or so I thought....

A quick clean reveals that the dirt is between the panes... WTF

I've no idea how the marks got in between the panes but it looks hideous, especially when direct sunlight hits it.

Silly question... Is the entire unit fecked, or is there some method of sorting this?

Can the units be "seperated" and effectively reconditioned, or are my dirty windows going to cost me thousands to "clean"?

The usual term is that the sealed units have 'blown', and they can be replaced. However, over time the uPVC becomes more brittle and the act of removing the old units might cause damage requiring a full replacement, but maybe not. Contact some reputable local window firms for quotes.

Do you have wooden panels or upvc? We've got wood sealed units and have the same problem, changing windows as we decorate.

Your sealed units have failed, they can be split down and re-made,but isn't worth doing,as sometimes the glass gets stained. Contact your local glass merchant and get a few quotes.

They're PVC units. I'll call around and see what they say. Cheers

Do you reckon they'd just replace the glass in my original units?

They'll do what they're told and paid to do, but will try and persuade you to have all new.

Easy job and not expensive at all to just get replacement glass. So easy you could even get the beads off yourself and do it. 2 minute job, so don't worry.

The double glazed glass units have broken down. The seal has failed and let moisture between the glass panes. Any easy repair which just needs the glass replaced with new - not your old glass.

Unless you know exactly what type of window you have get a glazier to do the job. It sometimes isn't as easy as removing the slips. Some PVC windows have a wedge rubber fitted that needs to be removed before removing the slips. Newer ons have the glass tape glazed in and you need to cut it out.

Trust me I work for a Company called 'Windowfix'. We do this all the time - several units to replace tomorrow. We also fit double glazing and repair draughty windows, doors, locks etc......

it can be a 2 min job on a newer upvc frame but on older frames u will find either a wedge gasket or even security tape, both will need to be replaced when changing the units, are the beads holding the glass in on the inside or outsideof windows?

We have got exactly the same with one of our windows. I can't understand how it gets between panes even if the seal has leaked.

Its such a big window it will cost a lot to replace the pane too.

Easy solution, take old window out, partially brick it up and fit a smaller, cheaper window

Believe me, if you saw the construction etc. of where that window is, you would realise that your suggestion would be very much more expensive.

Condensation and water will find its way in even the smallest gaps

It was replaced some time ago when a lorry threw a stone off the road at it. They would be suspicious I bet.
