Annual Leave Entitlement
I work either a 16 hour day shift or a 16 hour day shift + a night shift of 7 hours + 1 day hour (24hours) Its a day on (16 hours) then 2 days off then day on + sleep (24 hours)
Generally we work 2 days a week or sometimes 3, depending on how the rota goes. So it has been worked out that we work a 46 hour week on average.
We've been told that because we work over a 7 day week, when we take annual leave for a week we will have to take 7 days annual leave. Personally I don't think this is right as 1. We don't work a 7 day week and 2. the pen pushers in head office work 5 days a week so therefore only have to use 5 days annual leave when taking a week. 3. If we take just 1 day A/L we are getting penalised/paid less hours as our 46 hour week is divided over 7 days.
Can anyone tell me if this is correct the way they are giving us our annual leave?
Personally in my eyes I think it'd be better to take the annual leave and just be paid for the shifts we were doing. I.e. a Monday shift would be 16 hours paid and Thursday would be 24 hours. Once your hours have run out they have run out (around 256 I think)
From what I've read it has to be capped off at 28 days, is this right also? I think it is, would just like to check.
