It's more that Labour cant win, even if they join up with the Lib Dems. Labour plus the Lib Dem seats dont add up to a certain majority. If any of the other smaller groups voted with the Torys then they couldnt get legislation passed.
Where as the Conservatives with Lib Dem support have a sure fire winner.
But its not the way to Govern is it?

I thought they needed 326 seats for the majority vote?
Edit: Richie beat me to the punch

The four SDLP MPs take the Labour whip by default so Lab+Lib/Dem+SDLP+SNP+PL is 328 seats. However, SNP and PL will demand their pound of flesh - probably favourable treatment for scotland and wales when it comes to the inevitable public expenditure cuts, so making it worse for the rest of us.
Also, using SDLP, SNP and PL to pass unpopular primary legislation that affects england only (because of the devolved governments) is likely to be very badly received in england, so could be the beginning of the end for the union.

It is already very badly received in my book and they should keep their noses out or let the English start intervening in their Governments decisions and see how they take it.
