Guru (Gangstarr, Jazzmatazz) R.I.P.
I am shocked to hear that Guru from Gangstarr & Jazzmatazz has passed away yesterday night. Guru was one of the most influential and blessed mc's to ever touch a mic. A true artist and genius that will live on forever in our hearts. R.I.P.!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH3hrtp1T84

He had been sick for a while, kept it to himself till very recently. His last press release makes for interesting reading.
Was listening to Westwood today on the way home from work and they had a couple of good interviews on.
No doubt Semtex will do a good mix this weekend.

Oh no! My brother told me last week Guru was ill. I used to see him on MTV.

guru suffered a massive heart attack about 4 weeks ago so im guessing along with his long term illness it was the final straw. sad to hear that he's passed..ive been listening to his music for about 20 years aswell as going to a couple of concerts in manchester over the years.

His goodbye letter to the fans is very strange and to me hard to belive. Who would write something like this in such a situation and the success of Gangstarr's past. To me it looks like something Solar wrote himself. Checkout DJ Premier's website to get an additional view on this. Anyway, this thread shouldn't turn into a soap opera or something like that. Let's just remember the great tracks Gangstarr and Jazzmatazz produced and the memories of what once true rap music was. We must differenciate true rap artists from nowadays crap.

Dizzee rascal and such like i don't think are in the same league. Well dizzee rascal is a bit of a ***** now and does a lot of dance and pop, To be fair some of it i don't mind but no way is it hip hop as for soldja boy no way he is just a commercialised pretend gangster out to make a quick few quid. Fair play to him but he's had his time. And akon is just commercialised **** also without so much the gangster image. I did like 50 cents first couple of albums though until it all got a bit boring.
