Anybody watching the debate tonight?
Very unlike me to get involved in politics, never mind start a thread on them
But I think I'll be watching tonight to see what is said between the three guys. I have my opinions on Brown and Cameron, don't really know the 'other' one too well to be honest.
I'm thinking of actually voting for the first time since I became eligable (8 years) this year. I want Labour out and feel strongly enough to use my vote and not just wipe my **** with it this time round.

The last part of your view is my current view. However, I will watch just so that I can say 'well I did listen to the debate and was right all along. They are indeed all w*nkers1'. Summed up by ... http://autonomousmind.wordpress.com/...eauty-contest/ ...
"... And the reason for that is the political class refuses to listen to any of our concerns, leaving us with nothing but a political beauty contest rather than a battle of ideas about the future of this country’s people and Britain’s place in the world ..."
It'll be interesting if we see any real differences between the parties tonight because all we've had so far are some detail differences. They all refuse to debate, or offer solutions to, the problems the country faces.

Thing is though it isn't a real debate. There are 76 rules in place about how the debate is to be conducted and what can and can't be said etc.
If they really believed in themselves then there wouldn't need to be any of that and they would just get on with it.
Career politicians the lot of them - and their cosy little 'debate' is not worth wasting any time on as far as I am concerned.

it''s all a crock so much stuff goes on between them begind closed doors.
i can gaurentee 2 days after the election the winning party will announce 3000 new jobs in the north east as part of the regenoration of the old cours/british steel sites making it look like they have done a wonderful job sorting it all out.
i have no interest in any of it it's the same bucket of crap just shoveled around differently.

Rightly or wrongly these debates can make a big difference to election outcome.
I would like a 4th participant to take part who would liven things up with some straight talking. I would nominate George Galloway.
So who would you add to the party? Doesn't have to be someone directly involved in politics but someone who know the political scene and has a scintilla of intelligence.

My 'wildcard' would be Jeremy Clarkson - that would make the debate unmissable

News just in...
There was outrage after the TV debate, when Brown's glass eye fell out, rolled across the studio floor to where Cameron crushed it under his heel. Clegg would not codemn Cameron or support Brown, but reckoned we would all be £700 better off.....
Ok i made it up but never the less it could happen

Not one of them is able to say how they'd do things though. All sliding about and none of them actually addressing the real issues...
"We'll get rid of the 400 police doing HR"
Er... no you won't because we have so many people doing health and safety, making up new rules just so they seem to be doing something. They need all these people to try to keep on top of all the rules, regulations and blame culture that has been allowed to flourish... "oooh i'm stressed so i'm off sick, full pay mind, can't sack me because that would be against the disability rules"... "I'm not wearing the helmet, its against my religeon, you can't sack me that would be discrimanatory"
What it needs is a rule on responsiblity and the power for useless deadwood to be sacked without fear of stupid, costly appeals and all the other stuff.
So, no matter what they say, they won't be able to make it happen.

My wildcard entry would be Will Self.
Didn't catch the debate, preferred HIGNFY when the TV was on

Well the polls seem to show that dead Clegg did the best. To me he is full of it, easy for him to come across the big man as he will never actually be PM so can't have any promises come back to haunt him in the way the other two can.
All very well him giving all this rhetoric on being strong on immigration when his party is the MOST pro european of the lot and a large proportion of the immigration 'problem' affecting this country is from the Euro zone.
He is also not prepared to put a cap on non EU immigration like Dave would, but wants some hair brained scheme where an immigrant can work in one town but not another.
He'll get it in the next few weeks though when the Labour and Tory teams actually start to pick apart his so called policies including scrapping Trident and wanting the Euro.
To me only one person looked like he could lead the country and thats David Cameron

Cameron looked as shifty as all the way through. GB asked him the same question several times on a number of occasions, especially the one about the Police and Cameron dodged it everytime.
Agree re: Clegg though, as Les said too many rules for them to rip apart the more shifty policies of the Lib Dems.
At the end of the day all of them were about throwing more money at things that have already had piles of cash chucked at them and done no good junkies etc. Not one of them said "we will make it impossible to be better off on benefits than it is working."
At a stroke that would make a load of people get off their sofas and do something, it would also mean that there wouldn't be jobs for migrants because our slackers would have to do it instead.
No more free money. Work for benefits. Simple.
