Default Sat Nav says 1 hour to London...

Every time i use the sat nav to get there it always takes about 2 hours.
Does anyone else find that their sat navs are not not as accurate as they were?

I find myself constantly trying to shave minutes of the arrival time and by doing this you have to drive faster than allowed even when there are no hold ups.

Will they one day update the systems?

Nope mine never does that. My wifes TomTom or my Audi integrated.

Time is always very accurate.

What make is yours? Hingsongdung?

Likewise, always found TomTom pretty good on that front, though most of the time usually end up getting there earlier than what it predicted

Mine is Indago Snooper. Its ok for short journeys but the long ones can be a bit of a mare. Obviously they dont account for the extra volume of traffic we now have and new road layouts.

It means it's out of date and doesn't have a clue about average speeds or new road layouts...

Would have thought she'd want to spend less time in the car anyway, what with it smelling of sh*t and all

I have a similar problem with my Garmin, it is always a lot more optimistic about your arrival time compared to the reality. But it is mainly due to traffic. If there is no traffic it is quite accurate, but even then it is like it has assumed that every traffic light is green and every roundabout and junction can be driven through at a constant 30mph. As soon as you stop the arrival time changes, but it should have factored in those stops in the first place.

Maybe things have moved on since I bought it in 2006...

Is it down to the speeds entered for various types of road in your setup perhaps.

This is why i bought a tom tom go 550 live hd. It's a great sat nav comes with bluetooth handsfree, google and hd traffic. Hd traffic updates every 3 minutes and if there is traffic on your current route it will take you round it. I personally think this is saving me a few hours a week.

Ha ha your right there, it stinks! It wasnt so bad driving today but when i got in this morning it smelt like a nappy.

Over 2 hours again! I left early luckily but i was still late. Its the last 5 miles that takes over an hour. I managed to slip away before rush hour started today and got home in just under 2 hours. Luckily i dont have to go to London every day...4 hours on the road to go to and from work every day, what a waste of life.

For some reason i thought that Satnavs were programmed to take into account what time of day you were traveling and adjusted themselves accordingly, I was wrong

My TomTom is usually very good and either slightly over-estimates or is very close.

I've recently had a Garmin fitted to the Scooby (it's built in to a Kenwood head unit) and it is hopeless - even when there is no traffic I would have to drive like a lunatic to arrive when it predicts.

Yes I was thinking of MapPoint on the computer, the Sat Nav will use the real speeds to project ahead of course.
