Most awful car smell.

Most awful car smell.
Got my car about 6 weeks ago and for the last 2 weeks or so there has been a disgusting smell inside the car. It smells like a cross between a recycle bin, rape seed fields and a dirty nappy.
I dont allow any food to be eaten and i have not lost any shopping under the seats. The smell is even there when the car is cold in the mornings. I have a good air freshner but you can still smell the pong.
The previous owner has not hidden something in case you was wondering.
I left a top in the car and when i got it out it smelt of ****.
I feel like i am going mad.

It could be your air con. Get your car warm and set all the heating to hot and full blast for 5 mins. It's caused by bacteria in the heating system. Halfords sell a tin of stuff you set off in your car while its running.

if it was the air con would it smell in the car when not in use?
With the scoob, i sometimes got a smell for a minute when i used the A/C but it would go off and the smell was a stale smell not rotting. I will check it out though.
The A/C thing sounds likely but i didnt think it would make a rotting smell.

Wet carpet? My old Focus was letting in water to the passenger footwell through a leaky seal but I didn't know until I smelt the most nasty of niffs. I lifted up the mat and the carpet was soaked.
I bought a very strong air freshener and then sold the car

There may be a thin film of cat sticking to the underside of you car. When you run them over then tend to pop and spray feline juice all over your car.

Been to Honda, its not the A/C, wrong smell. Even the bloke at Honda said it smelt like **** lol.
The smell wasn't in the car for about 4 weeks after i bought it so i know its something i have done.
Sal, both foot wells are dry. I was hoping they were wet.
No dead cat stuck to the exhaust but if there was it would prolly smell like a Rustler burger as it would be cooked by now.
I am at a loss what to do now.

A couple are driving home, one snowy day when their car hits a skunk crossing the road. They can see the skunk is seriously injured so they stop and decide to take the skunk with them to a vets for it to receive treatment.
The woman turns to the husband and says "It's freezing. We need to warm it up!"
He responds "Put it between your legs"
"What about the smell?" she asks
"Well, if it dies, it dies!"

have you ever parked in someone elses space ?? my old next door neigbour done my head in so i stored p1ss in a 6pint container in my garage while working on the scoob , after a while a lovely black skin formed on the surface . at this point i knew it was time to move in for the kill so 2.30am 6pints down the heater vents between bonnet and windscreen . the idea is the black sludge blocks the vents drains allowing the vent to fill up with p1ss . victim starts car and drives off puts heater on when warmed up opening vents into car allowing contents of vent into car . needless to say he sold it 2days later . no more 5.30 wake up calls from a noisy diesel montego JOB DONE. just a thought someone could of thrown one down on your vents , or even a cat maybe

Did the car have a valet before you bought it .
this could have masked the smell for several weeks, or equally if the valet was very wet it may be the sponge in the seats or under the carpet smelling. this is caused by the interior not drying out properly due to the cold winter you wouldn't have noticed the smell until it warmed up slightly allowing bacteria to grow hence the smell.
I would try a full wet valet done by an expert they should be able to use a specific agent/chemical in the detergent to stop the smell from coming back.
Just make sure the car dries out properly.
We used to get the odd car back from sales due to the showroom not waiting to dry the interior before delivery.

It didnt have one but it was pretty clean anyway. I think i am going to have to get the car cleaned.
The smell is bad enough to make your clothes stink! I have stuck my fingers into every crevice i can find and nothing. if someone farted in the car i would not be able to smell it over the other smell
