Question Bitten by a spider in my greenhouse.......

......should I worry?

When it first bit me, there was a definite mark, like a twin pinprick, but it won't/doeasn't show on a photo.

I know there aren't SUPPOSED to be spiders here in the UK that can bite, but...........?

Oh, and the spider is history.

all spiders bite, but most fangs are too weak to penetrate the skin. in the UK about 10-15 spiders can cause a painful bite.

Nice looking Red Back Mark, two words, F*ck That, only ever seen one, killed it instantly.

Read this when I tried to identify the orb weaver, PMSL at some of this

Venom toxicity - the bite of Orb-Weaving Spiders is of low risk (not toxic) to humans. They are a non-aggressive group of spiders. Seldom bite. Be careful not to walk into their webs at night - the fright of this spider crawling over one's face can be terrifying and may cause a heart attack, particularly to the susceptible over 40 year olds.

@FM
I get loads (double figures in a year) of Redbacks at my house. As they're not wanders I have one rule: stay out of my way and they live, otherwise they're vaped. As was this one.
Whitetails on the otherhand. Vaped on sight, end of.

Bit like the Huntsman. Sure, it can give you a nip but the fact it could be 10 inches across (biggest I've seen was about 4 inches) may well cause simliar symptoms

I got a call from our Perth office to say the airport was shutting down because of a storm so I asked whether it was thunder or dust, to be told it's hailstones the size of Tennis *****, didntblieve her until I saw the 7 News later.

Dont min the Huntsman, they eat all the bad guys, and they're so bloody big they'd take half a can of Motein to finish them off, too expensive.

The first time I saw one I dd spray it and he jumped me LOL

Like I said, I was lucky. The biggest I was hit with was maybe 2cm across. It's said it will take 2 years to clear the insurance claims.

Huntsmans like hiding behind sun visors in cars too! Lots of crashes attributed to a spider on lap moment.

At least we don't have the Funnel Webs. Aggressive bastids by all accounts

I heard it said before that all spiders bite, but most spiders in the UK have fangs too small to penetrate our skin.
I saw a lovely spider on holiday last September. Its a "Argiope Lobata".

Nothing to see now, and the culprit is but a smear on the greenhouse path

What's a "whitetail?"

Always, ALWAYS keep the spider, ideally dead so if it is a problem - the hospial can identify the spider/venom

Nice idea, but when you GET bitten, the first thing on your mind is to KILL the fekker, and spiders, being MANY times smaller than me, tend to end up as a smear.........

An Ozzie spider that is a wanderer. Had a few this year indoors amongst bedding and such. Jury's out whether a Whitetail bite causes necrosis or not. Personally, I'd rather not find out. As mentioned earlier, these bastids are 'kill on sight'.
