Default Petty or within my rights, Post Office

I paid to have a letter sent guaranteed before 1pm, it cost me just over £5.00 to send.

The digital POD I got from the Post Office website is signed at 1:04pm.

Should I go get my £5.00 back or leave it as it was almost on time?

You paid over the odds for a service they didn't deliver.
I'd get it back.

Yes, get your money back from the thieving barstewards. They're quick enough to rob you if the letter is 'too big'.

Yes you should claim, if more people did then they will make more of an effort to improve the service, you can only fix a problem once you know it exists so reporting it is the best way to help improve the service.

Right, I'll toddlle up there after work today and get my money back.

At the very least it'll get me a pint of guinness and a packet of crisps!

Post Office used to be a great and trustworthy institution, now just all about money grabbing whilst not delivering.

If late then in breech of the contract between themsleves and you so i would go get you money back - i am sure there will be a lot of form filling and red tape designed to put you off, it is howver the principal which is why i guess you posted this in the first place.

Of late it seems 1st class recorded is a 2 day service now. Quite a few times in the last few months I have sent stuff 1st class recorded and its taken 2 days, one time 3 days. When you mention this to the PO they say... ahhh use special delivery... yeah right. 4x the cost! Seems to me like its almost a scam to get a lot more money out of their customers.. very irritating.

It's actually quite easy, download/print simple (ish) 2 page PDF form, fill in, print out electronic POD, send form, POD + original receipt to freepost address, await cheque in post!

Cool, sounds ideal, and how long does it take to issue said cheque, how long until the £5.00 is back with its rightful owner?

Depends whether they send it special delivery, first class, or second class...

Special delivery will be a few minutes late, first class a few days late, and second class a few weeks late

Cool, so it took seconds to take your money, even after providing POD it then takes some 3 weeks to get a cheque which then takes another 5 working days to clear.

Not the money more the pricnicle but p!iss poor considering, should be dealt with a depot level and refunded immediately (with POD) on the spot - another Post Office fail.

Yes I suppose so but in all honesty it pales into insignificance compared with the hoops jumped through and general hassle involved in trying to get money back out of BT and just getting a straight answer from Vodafone, relatively speaking the Royal Mail was pretty painless

Sadly i agree, BT are utter ***** and i am sick of speaking to people in offshore call centre who either cut you off or transfer you to someone else who cannot help and will not take any ownership. After 20 or so years with BT for phones and 12 years for internet i have moved to another provider.

BT and the Royal Mail used to give a damn and good service, how things have changed and mores the pity!

Isn't life too short for that? You must have something better to do ...
