Default 2010 Scumrun Rally.. To infinity and beyond!!!

Hi there, Its that time of year again, time for Scumrun 2010! I thought I'd update you all, looks like I found the perfect rally car!

Bought this on Ebay a few months back. It was perfect. White, V6 and most importantly, under 500 quid!

The only downside was an automatic gearbox. A very big, broken automatic gearbox as it turns out. SO back I went on here trying to find solutions, none of which were forthcoming.

In the end I just had to bite the bullet and take it to a gearbox specialist to be rebuilt. I got a complete rebuild, torque converter and new pump for 950, all in! I was very chuffed, some of the horror stories put the estimates at twice that

Anyways, so today loomed and I went to pick her up. Driving my rally cars back from the garage is always the acid test for me and this was was a peach, I had a very good feeling indeed when I pulled up outside mine, so a wash and a damn good hoover later and she was looking respectable.

What next? well our theme is not just a renault espace, but an Espace shuttle! We are in the process of procuring a lot of black vinyl to turning her from an ordinary MPV into the dodgiest space shuttle ever to grace a launch pad:crazy: Here's an idea of what we're going to do.

This is a space shuttle.

This is a low rent copy made in MS paint this afternoon I think you can see where this is going...

As with a lot of these things, I am also on the scrounge for sponsorship! You have to turn up with 500 quids worth of sponsorship on the startline, and to this end I am selling advertising space on the car.

This is where you come in. If you run a business and fancy taking part in the cheapest motorsport sponsorship deal this century, then all you have to do is visit here!
David Honess is fundraising for CLIC Sargent - JustGiving
A donation of just 20 quid secures your logo on the side of the car, which will then be driven round europe by 4 idiots, clutching inflatable Solid Rocket Boosters and wearing space suits. Larger donations can secure larger logos and choice of position, but these are negotiable. All you need to do is donate 100% securely via the above link and send us a high res copy of your logo, we'll do the rest.

Wish us luck!

I can see it now; large black plant pots glued to the back for rocket boosters

I'll look forward to seeing it

How does the rebuild affect the rules on buying the motor? I take it repairs don't dount?

Always enjoy reading these adventures, best of luck with it!

So long as it honestly cost under £500, then you can spend what you like.

I didnt enter last year, but in 2008 the majority of people had broken the rules, with cars that plainly hadnt ever cost under £500 (compared to 2007 where they all seemed honest).

Good luck Rhod.

I saw this in person on the 2008 event, and I doubt it! It broke down a lot and it wasnt an impressive car even before the alterations started. Whether they got to the start was in doubt for months and I was surprised to see them every evening too. I think it broke down on the event also: though that may have been last year.

Modifications dont count to against the initial purchase price. Some bloke dropped a Sierra Cosworth Engine in a transit he bought for 500 one year....
Realistically this is as far as my tuning modifications are going to go, I can't believe we're taking a french automatic on the rally, we must need our heads examined

Renault autoboxes aren't too bad IMO. Torque converter usually locks up in second gear onwards so its more of a direct drive instead of the slushy/slipping like many other autos. No speed machine, granted, but at least it makes them less thristy on fuel than normal autos.

This is from someone who drove a Clio Baccarra; Leather seats and wood trim in a Clio automatic. It was ghastly, would have made a good scum-runner as it only cost £100. We filled it up with scrap metal and crushed it last year though.

I am currently working on the car now as it goes. Tailfin is painted, rocket boosters are cabletied together and after that we will be wrapping the car in gaffa tape
I'll upload pics when I'm done
In the meantime though, all donations gratefully accepted! We are 5 days from the rally and 145 quid shot of our target, any donation of 20 quid gets your logo on the side of the car!
